The university is transitioning our anti-virus software from Avast to FortiClient. This will result in better coverage and fewer software conflicts. This will apply to work-study systems as well, and the rollout of this process began yesterday (Tuesday).
FortiClient has been in use as George Fox’s VPN software on laptops, and we have now expanded its services by including their anti-virus protection for all George Fox machines. This means that the former anti-virus software is no longer active, and you will need Forticlient installed or upgraded on your computer in order to be protected.
There are two steps that need to be taken for this to happen:
- Installation or upgrade of Forticlient
- Removal of previous Antivirus software (Avast or Sophos)
In most cases, IT will be able to push FortiClient directly onto your Windows PC remotely. If your system has a previous version of FortiClient it will likely require a reboot. Here are instructions for installing and rebooting the system at your convenience: Forticlient – PC Instructions.
After FortiClient is installed, the previous antivirus application should be removed. You can uninstall the old software from Settings/Apps. If you need assistance with uninstalling Avast or Sophos, contact the Service Desk.
This process has already been done for Apple products, but if you have questions about your Mac or were not contacted, please contact the Service Desk.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to give us a call at 503-554-2569, option 2.

We are sharing a few resources that we hope will help you prepare your FoxTALE course sites. The guide, FoxTALE Course Life Cycle, includes video demonstrations and instructions on how to import content into your 2019 Spring course sites, make your course sites visible to students, and more.
FoxTALE was upgraded during our break. You may be interested to know that …
- Faculty and students can easily make short audio and video recordings (maximum of two minutes) in forum postings. The feature is built into the FoxTALE text editor. See a demonstration of this here.
- On the Dashboard, each course listed in the In Progress, Future, and Past tabs will display a small image. You have the option of replacing the generic image with your own. See a demonstration of this at Dashboard Course Listing Images. You can find images at UnSplash.com, which is a repository of photography under Creative Commons licensing.
You will find additional guides on this FoxTALE for Faculty page and Digital Learning page. We invite you to join us for web conferences being offered on the Faculty Development Spring Offerings Form.
We hope this information helps as you make final preparations in your courses.
– Your Digital Learning Team
