All are invited to a special presentation, “Reflections on Dr. King and the Beloved Community,” on Thursday, Oct. 31, at 4:15 p.m. in Canyon Commons. This lecture on the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. will be given by Scott Finnie, a professor at Eastern Washington University.

Finnie has been a faculty member in EWU’s Africana Education Program and history department since 1992 and currently serves as director of Africana studies and as director of race and cultural studies. His presentation is part of the university’s presidential lecture series. You can read more about his visit here.

Do you feel a call to ministry, but are wondering what that might look like? Join us for a Call to Ministry Conference at Clackamas Park Friends Church (8120 S.E. Theissen in Milwaukie) for a time of reflection, inspiration and discernment.

The conference, sponsored by the university’s College of Christian Studies and the Northwest Yearly Meeting, takes place Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11-12, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. (Friday) and 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (Saturday). All meals are provided, and 14 discussion tables will suggest possible ministries and scholarships available for you to consider.

VMware is a global leader in cloud infrastructure and digital workspace technology and a recent article on VMware in Forbes described the company this way: “It’s not an exaggeration to say that VMware stands at the center of the IT universe. The company’s software touches nearly every element of modern IT architecture.” VMware employs more than 24,000 employees and revenue for fiscal 2018 was nearly $9 billion. Gelsinger, Intel’s first chief technology officer, drove the creation of key industry technologies, including USB and Wi-Fi.

Two training sessions for Cascade Server, the system used to edit the university website, will be offered on Friday, Oct. 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon.

These basic-level sessions are tailored for editors who have either not edited the website before or need a refresher on using the software. Both sessions will be held in the library basement computer lab (MLRC 020). Sign up here.

The Passport Days event runs today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. On both days, a USPS representative will be in the Bauman Auditorium lobby to help you with all of your passport needs. All of the application and photo process will be done at once.

Checks are preferred, but cash will be accepted as long as it is the exact amount. You will need to bring the following items with you:

• Form of payment
• Current driver’s license or state-issued ID with current last name
• Original or certified birth certificate (your birth certificate will be submitted with the passport application and returned to you from the state department)

At George Fox, we believe in the importance of creating a safe and healthy environment for all of our community members so that you can be successful in achieving your goals.

We have partnered with Ever-Fi to make an interactive and engaging online module available to you on the topic of college student mental health. While this module is encouraged for all students, first-year students are required to complete the course.

If you wish to learn more about helping others, this course is for you. The course is interactive and full of valuable information regarding mental health strategies. It will only take 30 to 40 minutes of your time.

All first-year students will receive an email next week from the Office of Student Life with instructions on how to take the course. Then a follow-up email will be sent out by Ever-Fi and George Fox University.
