Chris Meade makes College of Business dean candidate presentation today

College of Business Dean Candidate Chris Meade will speak today (Monday) on the topic, “What is your three- to five-year vision for a College of Business in a Christian University? Considering today’s higher education climate, what are the key success factors that will promote George Fox’s College of Business to not only survive, but to thrive, in the future?”

The presentation will be from 10:40 to 11:20 a.m. in EHS 102. Meade, director of MBA programs at George Fox, is our first of three candidates. We welcome your input and participation in this process.

Michael Seregow returns to campus to play doctoral recital tonight

Alumnus Michael Seregow is returning to campus tonight (Monday) to play a 7:30 p.m. doctoral recital in Bauman Auditorium. The recital is for his doctorate in piano performance and pedagogy from the University of Oregon.

He’ll be playing Beethoven, Schumann, Bartok and Satie. Admission is free.

One-Act Play auditions set for today in Lemmons 8

One-Act Play auditions are scheduled today (Monday) from 5 to 7 p.m. in Lemmons 8.

Auditions will take place for:

  • Third And Oak: The Laundromat by Marsha Norman, a second stage production directed by Cambria Herrera

The cast is two women. Callbacks will be Tuesday, March 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Lemmons 14. Performances are scheduled April 23-24.

Bring a 90-second monologue of your choice. Non-majors and minors don’t have to memorize one and can pick up one at the audition desk the night of.

Sign up for an audition slot on the Lemmons’ theatre board across from the dean’s office. Please arrive early to your audition time and be prepared to fill out a conflict schedule!

Woolman Peacemaking Forum visits both campuses this week

Don’t forget this week’s Woolman Peacemaking Forum, featuring pastor and advocate Alexia Salvatierra, on the Newberg and Portland campuses March 3-5. The theme of the event is “People of Peace: Effective Faith-Rooted Advocacy.” There is no charge to attend any of the events.

Monday, March 3

  • Missional Ecclessiology, Portland Center Room 265, 7-10 p.m. Alexia will speak in this course as a guest of George Fox Evangelical Seminary. No RSVP is required.

Tuesday, March 4

  • Faith-rooted advocacy training session with George Fox University praxis class, 9 a.m to 3 p.m. Alexia will lead a training session at the Tilikum Retreat Center. As attendees must commit to the entire session, those interested must RSVP by email to cbaldwin@georgefox.edu to attend.
  • Woolman Peacemaking Forum, Main Evening Session, 7-9 p.m., Hoover 105 (Newberg campus). Title: “Faith-Rooted Organizing: Mobilizing the Church in Service to the World.” No RSVP is required.

Climbing wall hours posted

Tonight’s lecture discusses ‘Rise of the Nones’

Don’t forget tonight’s (Monday’s) Liberal Arts and Critical Issues lecture presented by David Gutterman, associate professor of politics at Willamette University, who will speak from 7 to 8 p.m. in Hoover 105 on the topic “Believe it or Not: The Rise of the Nones and the Future of Religion in the United States.”

The same session is presented from 4:40 to 5:40 p.m.; however, it is recommended that the general public attend the evening session, if possible.

Entrepreneurship class seeks donations for Newberg F.I.S.H.

After the holidays, the amount of giving to charitable causes declines while the needs of the people still remain high. Team V.C.R in the Entrepreneurship 300 class wants to help those in need in the Newberg area by collecting donations for the organization Newberg F.I.S.H.

This local food pantry has been proudly supporting the Newberg area for more than 40 years! Most of their food supplies come from local businesses, churches, schools and ordinary people. We are asking both students and staff members for packaged and preserved food donations such as canned foods, rice, beans, etc.

If you would like to donate, please email kampmannc13@georgefox.edu and we will arrange a time to pick up your donation on campus sometime this weekend. We will only be collecting donations until Tuesday, March 4, so if you would like to donate please let us know as soon as possible.

It is hard to make a difference by ourselves, but united we can truly make a positive impact for those struggling in our Newberg community!

Admissions office intern applications open this Monday

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is seeking awesome students to work as interns with the admissions counselors and in coordinating events. This is a great opportunity to get professional internship experience without the long commute!

We are seeking energetic, personable and detailed-oriented candidates who seek academic credit or qualify for federal student employment.

“Table Talk” is a lunchtime gathering in which George Fox staff, faculty and students dialogue about issues related to cultural diversity. Everyone is welcome to come and discuss February’s topic on “Overcoming.” Student guest speakers Jayce Montgomery and Yasharet Lopez will share their personal stories of how they have overcame a challenge.

Eating disorders panel at Shalom tonight

Shalom is hosting a panel for National Eating Disorder Awareness Week tonight (Thursday) at 9 p.m. in the Cap and Gown Room.

Panelists from the Columbia River Eating Disorder Network will be on hand to answer questions about eating disorders as we discuss how to best come alongside each other as we struggle to restore wholeness in our relationships to our bodies. Annie Stewart will serve as host.

University Players present ‘Highway 18’ on March 7

’Support the university’s theatre department by attending the University Players’ thought-provoking performance of drama and music. The theme of our production this year is “Highway 18.”

Join us Friday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Wood-Mar Auditorium. Admission is free!

This year, the University Players explore stories of traveling down Highway 18 — who we are, where we go, and what we encounter along the way. Interwoven with music and masks, they tell stories from their own lives on their journeys toward identity.

Their stories are told in three acts.

Life. Death. Resurrection. Buckle up. It’s quite a ride.
