Coronation Dessert Reception

Security Services: Keep valuables secure or take them with you

In light of the fact more thefts have been reported on campus this week, security services reminds you to keep your valuables secure or take them with you. Just this week, backpacks were stolen from the Wheeler Sports Center and a bike from the Villa Academic Complex. Some items have been discovered and returned to the victims.

Also, please be sure to report any unusual activity to security right away so we can respond and investigate. You may do so by calling 503-554-2090 or in person at the Security Services House.

Reported Offense: A theft from one gym bag was reported to security services on Tuesday night, Oct. 7, and occurred in the Wheeler Sports Center by the racquetball courts. Three backpacks were taken from the sports office in Wheeler around noon on Oct. 9, and a bicycle was also taken from the Villa Academic Center bike racks between noon and 1 p.m.

Suspects: Unknown at this time. It can be assumed that the possibility of other thefts continue to exist. Security is working with the Newberg-Dundee Police Department on this situation.

This notice is being given in compliance with the “Timely Notice” provisions of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998.

Alumni, students perform in historical thriller, ‘The Whipping Man’

Come support George Fox alumni and current theatre students Jeannot Djanga (appearing as “John”) and Amberly Orr (sound designer) in Valley Repertory Theatre’s production of the award-winning play The Whipping Man by Matthew Lopez. It opens this weekend at the Newberg Masonic Lodge, just three blocks from campus at 402 E. Sheridan St.

The campus community is invited to the next installment of the “Islam and the West” Liberal Arts and Critical Issues series this Monday, Oct. 13, in Hoover 105. The session runs from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and features Miriam Adeney, associate professor of world Christian studies at Seattle Pacific University.

Adeney will present “Jesus’ People in the Muslim World: Followers of Jesus, Christian and Muslim,” in which she will discuss the diverse views of Jesus and the diverse kinds of followers of Christ. The same session is presented from 5 to 6 p.m.; however, it is recommended that the general public attend the evening session, if possible.

‘The Wineskin’ is still accepting submissions

Today’s workshop offers tips on writing research papers

Need some pointers on writing research papers? The Academic Resource Center is hosting a workshop, “Steps to Writing a Successful Research Paper,” today (Thursday). Gary Tandy, professor of English, and Sarah Hardy, public services librarian, will lead the session, scheduled from 10:50 to 11:40 a.m. in Hoover 105.

Here is a synopsis of the workshop:

Research papers can seem overwhelming, but following a step-by-step, organized approach can make your life much less stressful. This session will walk through those steps and guide you to campus and Internet resources to help make you a research pro.
