Counseling program hosts info session tonight

Hey seniors! Do you enjoy helping people? Have you considered a career as a clinical mental health counselor, couple and family systems counselor, school counselor or school psychologist? If so, join this week’s information meeting to learn about masters-level counseling programs offered at George Fox. Prerequisite classes are not required, and your bachelor’s degree does not need to be in psychology to apply.

An info meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) at the Portland Center. You can register online at this link and learn more about our programs at counseling.georgefox.edu. The meeting will take place in Room 155A, located on the first floor of the Portland Center.

2015-16 Financial Aid Notifications

If you recently received notification of your 2015-16 financial aid, please be aware that your aid was calculated with a projection of full-time enrollment for both semesters.

Full-time enrollment is 12 or more credits in both fall and spring. If you plan to be a part-time student next year or plan to graduate after fall semester, please let your financial aid counselor know. Your aid will be re-calculated. If you did not receive a notice of your 2015-16 financial aid, please check your “to do” list on your MyGFU for documents needed prior to your aid calculation.

Also, if you have not yet filed the 2015-16 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), please do so soon at www.fafsa.gov.

Plan to attend Holy Week chapel services

Please plan to fellowship as a George Fox community by participating in our special chapel series during Holy Week, Tuesday March 31, through Thursday, April 2. All are welcome and encouraged to participate in these special chapel opportunities.

  • On Tuesday, March 31, at 10:50 a.m. in Bauman will entail a traditional Holy Week service with worship, contemplative prayer, and a special homily given by President Robin Baker. Students are eligible to earn chapel credit.
  • On Wednesday, April 1, at 7 p.m. please join for an evening contemplative service spent in prayer and remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice through the Stations of the Cross. Students are eligible to earn chapel credit.
  • On Thursday, April 2, from 12:30 to 1 p.m. please join for a brief mid-day Maundy Thursday communion service in Bauman as we commemorate the Last Supper.

Cheer on Bruin men’s tennis team this afternoon

The George Fox women’s basketball team continues its pursuit of a national championship in Michigan this Friday and Saturday, March 20-21, as the Bruins compete in the Final Four. The good news is, you can still catch all the action here at home.

On Friday, third-ranked George Fox (31-0) will face off against No. 7 Montclair State (30-1) at 4:30 p.m. (PDT) in the tournament semifinals. Join us in Hoover 105 for the live feed, and be sure to bring your Bruin spirit with you!

Fitness Center Spring Break Hours

Starting Saturday, March 21, and ending Sunday, March 29, the Fitness Center will be operating on spring break hours. The Fitness Center will be open weekdays and Saturdays from 6 to 10 a.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m.

These hours will be posted on the Fitness Center door; please plan accordingly.

Clothing drive for survivors of human trafficking continues

Do you have any extra clothes you would like to donate? A group of seniors is hosting a clothing drive that will help local survivors of human trafficking. Contributions can be left in any of the blue tubs located in the Bruin Den, the Stevens Center atrium and the Coffin, Le Shana and Edwards residence halls. The clothing drive will run through Saturday, April 11.

Upper entrance to Wheeler is closed today

The upper (main) entrance to the Wheeler Sports Center will be closed today (Tuesday) while new concrete for the plaza is being poured.

Access to Wheeler on the upper level will be provided on the south side of the building through the hallway outside the weight room. If coming from the north, foot traffic will be directed to the track, entering through the gate on Fulton Street and proceeding to the weight room door.

Admissions office now hiring interns for next year

An internship in the admissions office is an exceptional, professional experience you can have without leaving campus! The business and communications experience alone make it a worthwhile resume-builder. The internship affords you the opportunity to build relationships with current students, prospective students and their parents, and the admissions staff.

Multicultural Leadership Scholarship available for returning students

The Multicultural Returnee Leadership Scholarship application is due by Friday, April 3, at 5 p.m. Four $2,500-per-year renewable scholarships will be given to returnee students who meet the following requirements:

  • Considered a domestic undergraduate student
  • Actively involved in leadership at George Fox
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Strong desire for and willingness to be engaged in diversity and reconciliation activities on campus

To qualify, you must not currently be a multicultural scholarship recipient (if you have questions, contact Donna Barber), and you must submit a leadership resume that includes the following to SpIL via email no later than Friday, April 3, at 5 p.m.:

  1. Tell us what makes you qualified as a Multicultural Leadership Scholar
  2. Current cumulative GPA
  3. Names and contact information of TWO George Fox faculty/staff who would recommend you

Once on the site, find the George Fox blood drive by searching with the ZIP code (97132) or sponsor code (GeorgeFox). Click either George Fox blood drive (Villa Academic Complex Room 117 or Red Cross bus). Sign into your account or register to create one, then schedule an appointment and confirm!

The drive will be from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 2. Remember to eat breakfast and drink plenty of water, and be sure to bring your ID! The event is hosted by the university’s Nursing Club.
