Join in on prayer time in Pavilion this Sunday night

Tuesday, October 20th, 2015

Have you been wondering what happens to the prayer requests in the Prayer Chapel? Come to Burnt Offerings in the Pavilion on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. as we gather around a fire, worship, and pray over each anonymous request, giving it as an offering to God.

This is a great way to gather in community and pray, worship around a campfire, and enter into the presence of God on behalf of our friends and community here. If the thought of prayer intimidates you, we would encourage you to come and be present in a community of prayer to witness the work God is doing.

We hope to see you there!

Questions? Contact Amanda Kitz at akitz13@georgefox.edu.

Important reminder from the Student Life Office about social media, civility, bias and harassment

Monday, October 19th, 2015

Mid-semester is a great time to remind all of us about the expectations of living in a Christ-centered community that honors kindness, grace and civility as important values. We believe that all people are of great worth and value in the eyes of God and seek to increasingly become a campus characterized by loving support of one another. Cultural humility means that we seek to understand and appreciate others, also created in the image of God, who are different from ourselves.

Language and/or behavior that relies on stereotypes or is demeaning toward individuals or groups is unacceptable for George Fox students and employees, whether it occurs in person, through social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) or anonymously. We want to remind everyone that George Fox has harassment, discrimination and bias-related incident policies that can be viewed at studenthandbook.georgefox.edu.

Any incidents of harassment, discrimination or bias should be reported immediately to the Student Life Office. We would also encourage community members to hold one another accountable for what we say and do in this important area. May God enable each of us to be more and more like Jesus in the way we treat one another!

Evangelicals’ influence in Africa discussed in lecture tonight

Sunday, October 18th, 2015

Join us tonight (Monday) for a Liberal Arts and Critical Issues presentation in Hoover 105, as Joel Matthews from the Educational Concerns for Hunger organization presents “American Evangelicals Engaging Intelligently in African Development.” The same presentation will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. and again from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Guests are asked to attend the later session.

The presentation will discuss how American evangelicals have made an enormous influence in the nature and direction of modernization in Africa, yet how this rarely leads to sustainable improvements for the poor. Among the questions he’ll tackle is, “What are evangelicals doing wrong and how can it be made right?” His presentation is the seventh in the “Majority World and the West” series.
