Do you enjoy helping people? Have you considered a career as a school counselor, school psychologist, clinical mental health counselor, or couple and family systems counselor? Interested in trauma counseling or play therapy?

If so, then join an upcoming Graduate School of Counseling information meeting to learn about masters-level counseling programs offered at George Fox. Your bachelor’s degree does not need to be in psychology to apply.

Cultural Celebration Week kicks off today, includes Instagram photo contest

Cultural Celebration Week is kicking off with guest presenter Janet Bennett. Come learn how to develop your intercultural communication skills tonight (Monday) at 7 p.m. in EHS 102.

Midyear commencement needs student marshal, honor guard volunteers

Midyear commencement is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m.! The academic affairs office is looking for a few good students to volunteer as student marshals or honor guard at the event! Those of you who choose to accept this assignment will be trained at a walk-through on Thursday, Dec. 17, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

‘Global Human Flourishing’ is topic of tonight’s LACI lecture

All are invited to the final Liberal Arts and Critical Issues presentation of the semester tonight (Monday) in Hoover 105, when Geri Mason, an assistant professor of economics at Seattle Pacific University, speaks on the topic “Global Human Flourishing: Should Markets be Freer? Fairer? Forsaken?” The same presentation will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. and again from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Guests are asked to attend the later session.

The presentation will discuss strategies of how we should interact with profit-seeking corporations, advocates of fair trade, humanitarian NGOs, and governments that control institutions vital to development. Her presentation is the 10th in the “Majority World and the West” series.

Square 1 Worship and Communion

The Gospel. Worship. Fun. Square 1 is a completely student-led chapel elective (meaning you get credit) designed to get back to the simple, core elements of faith in Christ, to start “back at square one.”

First Friday service is tonight (Friday) at 6 p.m. in the Cap and Gown Room. This is a dedicated time to pause from the stresses of life and remember the work of Jesus. We’ll spend time in worship with guest leaders Emily and Jordan, then open up a time for communion. After we’re done, we’ll play an awesome game involving balloons!

The product is a phone case that has a locking device so that no one can get to your phone. The case also has a built-in wallet so you are able to put your credit cards and money in the case for safe keeping.

League of Legends (LOL) Tournament

Once again it’s time compete in the International Club’s LOL Tournament! Sign up your team and bring your computer to enjoy a fun-filled competition. Pizza, snacks and refreshments provided!

The tournament will take place on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Hoover 102. If you want to participate, please reply to the International Club by Thursday to sign up.

Team requirements:

  • All team members have to be George Fox students.
  • Each team is allowed to have more than five players; players can rotate between matches.

Rules:

  1. Winner is decided by best of three matches.
  2. Players who are in the match are not allowed to communicate to the audience.
  3. At least five players of a team have to attend the match, if not, the team will be disqualified for the tournament.
  4. Only Fox students are allowed to participate in this event.
  5. All players have to physically be present for the event.
  6. Players have to bring their own device for gaming/tournament.
  7. Players cannot rotate during matches

Events include but are not limited to the Cultural Fair (Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 4 to 6 p.m. in Bruin Den), LHC Spoken Word and special guest Janet Bennett, who will speak on developing your intercultural communication skills on Monday, Nov. 9, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. in EHS 102. Bennett’s visit is cosponsored by the communication arts department.

Free Chehalem Symphony Orchestra concert plays Sunday in Bauman

The university will host a free Chehalem Symphony Orchestra performance at 2:30 p.m. this Sunday, Nov. 8, in Bauman Auditorium.

The concert will feature the Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G Major, Concerto in E Minor, and Serenade for Strings in E Major. Also performing will be a Keyboard Ensemble playing Get up and Go and Brightwood Barn. Pat Vandehey serves as conductor of the Chehalem Symphony Orchestra.

Bruin Preview guests in Klages Dining Room today

With our Bruin Preview guests on campus today (Friday) it will get very crowded in the dining room during breakfast and lunch. Overflow seating will be available in the Cap and Gown Room for both meals.

We are expecting our guests to come in for breakfast at approximately 8 a.m., so those of you who normally join us for breakfast may want to try and come either before 8 a.m. or after 8:30 a.m. to avoid long lines. Also, with the large number of guests for lunch we will be serving on paper, so you may take your food out of the dining room if you prefer.
