Film ‘Selma’ shows in Foxhole this Sunday

In honor of MLK Day, the Black Student Union and Alliance will be showing Selma in the Foxhole at 4 p.m. this Sunday, Jan. 24, with a light discussion after.

Nike reps on campus Friday to talk about summer internships

Bring your lunch into the Cap and Gown Room on Friday, Jan. 22, from noon to 1 p.m. to learn about summer positions at Nike.

Opportunities will be available to work with the Nike North America Customer Service (NACS) team over a 12-week contract that could give you introductory experience to different areas of Nike order management.

This Collegiate Summer Worker program is perfect for those interested in logistics, sales, supply chain, customer operations, order management, information solutions, process improvement, and project management.

Anyone is welcome to attend the information session to learn more about this amazing opportunity firsthand from Nike employees.

Christian Camp Job Fair meets in EHS Atrium Thursday

Winter musical, ‘The Spitfire Grill,’ opens next week

Come support our theatre students at this winter’s musical presentation of The Spitfire Grill, directed by Rhett Luedtke.

Performances are in Wood-Mar Auditorium on Jan. 28-31 and Feb. 4-7. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. with the exception of the two Sunday matinees (Jan. 31 and Feb. 7), scheduled as 2 p.m. matinees.

Tickets are free for students for the two Thursday shows (Jan. 28 and Feb. 4). Employees are entitled to one complimentary ticket. Please bring your student or employee ID to the door when you attend the show. Additional tickets are $14 for adults, $10 for seniors 65 or older, and $8 for children under 12.

Tickets may be picked up/purchased at the Bruin Store or one hour prior to each show in Wood-Mar Auditorium. They are also available online at theatre.georgefox.edu. A synopsis of the show is also online.

Come support university’s a cappella group at Jan. 30 competition

Come support the George Fox a cappella group, Quakers and Notes, as they compete in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella Northwest quarterfinals at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, at Rolling Hills Community Church, 3550 S.W. Borland Road, in Tualatin.

Ten groups will be competing for a top-two spot. Those that do move on to the semifinal round in Los Angeles. Among the schools competing with George Fox in the quarterfinals are Oregon, Oregon State, Portland State, Southern Oregon and Central Washington.

In all, 341 groups are in the national tournament this year. Tickets are $16.74 for students and $22 for general admission. To get more information and/or purchase tickets, visit this link.

Custodial work study positions still available

Still need a job? The custodial department still has openings across campus doing a variety of tasks, including cleaning bathrooms, classrooms, offices, lobbies and stairs.

You must be available to work two hours every day Monday through Friday between the hours of 6 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. in most of the positions. The hourly wage is $9.25. You will receive individual training from your supervisor for your particular assigned area.

If interested, go to this page, click the “Placement Questionnaire” link and fill out the form completely, giving us as much information as possible indicating any preference of your work schedule, assigned work area, and/or supervisor. This will help us place you easier. Print it off and either mail or deliver it to plant services (Box #6446) with a completed Student Application.

Copies of the Placement Questionnaire are also available at plant services. After we have reviewed your information and have assigned you to a specific area, you will be notified to come to plant services to sign an offer letter and complete any additional paperwork in order to start working.

Spring Serve info meeting set for tonight after chapel

Are you interested in leading or participating in a serve trip over spring break? We are looking for both student and faculty leaders. There will be an informational meeting tonight (Wednesday) after chapel (8 p.m.) in Bauman Auditorium.

This year’s trips are going to:

  • Camp Attitude, a not-for-profit Christian organization dedicated to providing a unique faith-based camping experience for families in the disability community
  • Flying H Ranch, a ranch 30 miles west of Yakima, Wash., that ministers to at-risk youth
  • Urban Impact in Seattle, where the focus will be on building relationships and serving in the community through the local church
  • Mending Wings, a nonprofit Native American youth organization located on the Yakama Reservation in Washington state
  • Word Made Flesh in Los Angeles, where the focus will be to establish beloved community in a low-income neighborhood of the city

If you are interested in participating, applications are due no later than Friday, Feb. 12. If you would like to serve as a student leader, applications are due Saturday, Jan. 30. Applications and more details on each trip are available at this link.
