This week, as always, we are hosting our regular night of swing dancing tonight (Saturday) in the Foxhole! However, this time it is special. This week it is Valentine’s Day-themed, so there will be chocolate!

Beginner lessons start at 6:30 p.m., advanced lessons at 7 p.m., and free dance from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Hope to see you there!

Peace Corps on campus Feb. 17 to share career and internship opportunities

The Peace Corps is the preeminent international service organization of the U.S., sending Americans abroad to tackle the most pressing needs of people around the world. They will have a representative on campus this Wednesday, Feb. 17, providing opportunities for you to hear more about what they do!

They will be at the IDEA Center table in the SUB from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and host an informational session from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in Cap and Gown A for any student who is interested in learning about a wide variety of available programs across more than 60 countries.

Changes coming to class.georgefox.edu

As we ramp up to registration for the 2016-17 academic year, we’re implementing some improvements to our popular class information webpage, class.georgefox.edu.

On Monday, Feb. 15, you’ll see these changes go live!

Basic navigation for semester, student population and class subject are the same, but we’ve added drill-down functionality that includes class start and end dates as well as meeting dates, times and locations, along with access to some basic tuition refund calculations.

Advisors and students, we recommend you familiarize yourself with the new layout and functions prior to your advising appointments in March.

Two big career fairs coming up at end of February

Wanting to start your internship/job search now? Trying to take the next steps of the IDEA Center’s “Be Found February 30-Day Challenge”? One of the biggest university career/internship fairs is coming up. The All-Industries OSU Career and Internship Fair is on Wednesday, Feb. 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Oregon State University campus. All majors are invited to attend and meet more than 100 companies wanting to hire students. See who’s coming here.

The next day will be the Engineering and Technology Internship and Career Fair, on Thursday, Feb. 25, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the OSU campus. You should come if you’re seriously interested in landing in the tech/engineering industry. See who’ll be there here.

Trying to integrate your love for sports entertainment with a future job or internship? The Portland Trail Blazers organization is hosting the Sports & Entertainment Career and Internship Fair at the Moda Center on Tuesday, Feb. 23, from 2 to 7 p.m.

Companies affiliated with sports entertainment like Adidas, the Seattle Mariners, the Portland Timbers and many more will be there! Cost to attend the event is $10, which can be paid at the IDEA Center. One ticket will gain you entrance into both the career fair and the game versus the Brooklyn Nets that evening at 7 p.m.

Hoverboards not permitted on campus beginning this semester

Due to safety concerns and fire risk associated with hoverboards that have been raised by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the potential impact to the safety of our community, George Fox University has decided to temporarily ban these devices.

Effective the spring 2016 semester until further notice, the use, possession or storage of hoverboards, including all self-balancing-type scooters and hands-free segways, will not be permitted on campus or on any George Fox property.

Registration opens Feb. 18 for Innovative Industry Idea Challenge (i3)

The College of Business is hosting its annual Innovative Industry Idea Challenge (i3) for its second year. This team competition will involve business innovation and a full day of collaboration with industry experts from Intel, Ivey Performance Marketing, Hewlett-Packard and more! The grand prize for the winning team will be $500 and your names commemorated on a trophy.

Teams must consist of six to eight members, with one member being from the College of Business. Each team will have an industry expert as a mentor, and five hours to collaborate with each other to come up with an innovative business idea for a randomly assigned industry. No outside prep is needed, but bring what you think you might need to succeed. Single members who do not have a team may sign up at the College of Business offices to be put on a random team.
