The final Mu Kappa Club meeting of the semester will take place tonight (Tuesday) at 6 p.m. in the International House! Come prepared for a fun evening with snacks, hot drinks and great conversation. Hope to see you there!

The Mu Kappa Club exists to create space for interaction in a fun and friendly group, and to advocate for and support MKs, TCKs and international students here at George Fox! We are focused on supporting students who have lived in other countries or whose parents work outside the U.S., but all are welcome at any of our events.

A new trip next semester will give students a chance to embark on a four-day immersion into the city of Portland (Jan. 19-22). We will explore the things we otherwise cannot see until we are deep in the communities of Portland. This experiential learning trip will give insight into how God is working through and in the city, bringing reconciliation and recognizing the hardships.

Winter is coming.

Following is our process for announcing campus closure information. The provost will make the decision whether or not to close the Newberg campus, Portland Center and Salem site for daytime classes by 6:30 a.m. or 2:15 p.m. for evening classes. This applies to all days of the week, including Saturday. If there is no announcement by the deadline, assume classes are being held. Decisions at the Redmond site will be made by the professor.

Major considerations are road conditions, ice, utility service disruption, and how long the severe weather or emergency is likely to last. To find out if a closure decision has been made when bad weather occurs:

1. Visit the George Fox flashalert.net page at http://flashalert.net/news.html?id=32 (This is the first site updated)
2. Listen to local radio and television stations. Each campus will be identified separately. (They get their information from Flashalert.)
3. Call the George Fox University switchboard at 503-538-8383.

Weather may make it difficult or even impossible for some to come to campus even though the university is operating as usual. In no circumstances should employees or students put themselves in danger or peril in an attempt to get to campus. If they feel conditions are too hazardous for travel, they should not make the attempt.

This is the last week of chapel and Vespers. On Tuesday morning (10:50 to 11:40 a.m.), President Robin Baker will speak in chapel. Come join us for festivities and treats!

Vespers on Wednesday night (7 p.m.) will meet in three locations. You may choose to attend in either Hoover 105, the Canyon Commons or Wood-Mar Auditorium. Each will be led by a different campus pastor and fellow students. These Advent services will include songs, Scripture and candle lighting. This is the final service of the semester!

We have really grown as a community this semester learning what building life in Jesus is from various guest speakers and becoming a unified “ONE” in Vespers.

Tonight (Monday) Art Talk is featuring Kensuke Yamada, a celebrated ceramist whose artwork has been shown at several national venues and has been featured in Ceramics Monthly and the Seattle Times. All are welcome to the free presentation from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Chehalem Cultural Center (415 E. Sheridan St.).

Yamada originally moved to the U.S. as an exchange student. His experiences as a foreigner navigating a new language led to a focus on “human gestures and facial expressions,” which are embodied in his sculptures. Come check out Yamada’s ceramic work and hear about his artistic practice.

We are asking for donations. Suggested items include:

• Toiletries (bar soaps, combs, brushes, toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, lotion, etc.)
• Items for babies (wipes, small toys, etc. )
• Towels and washcloths
• School supplies (coloring books, crayons, stickers, etc.)
