Are you an artist looking for a little extra cash?

Sunday, December 4th, 2016

I’m looking for a studio artist (or enthusiast) to paint a landscape mural on a piece of 24-by-30-inch metal. It’s a Christmas present for my mom, a scene of Mt. Hood with a nest of squirrels in the foreground and a few other details.

I will give you a detailed comp and, of course, money. Contact me at mphillips13@georgefox.edu if you are interested or want more information.

Thank you,
McKayla Phillips

Art Talk hosts ceramist Kensuke Yamada tonight

Sunday, December 4th, 2016

Tonight (Monday) Art Talk is featuring Kensuke Yamada, a celebrated ceramist whose artwork has been shown at several national venues and has been featured in Ceramics Monthly and the Seattle Times. All are welcome to the free presentation from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Chehalem Cultural Center (415 E. Sheridan St.).

Yamada originally moved to the U.S. as an exchange student. His experiences as a foreigner navigating a new language led to a focus on “human gestures and facial expressions,” which are embodied in his sculptures. Come check out Yamada’s ceramic work and hear about his artistic practice.

Registration open to take part in MLK Day of Service on Jan. 16

Thursday, December 1st, 2016

Do you love to serve? Does volunteering for the larger vision of Martin Luther King Jr. inspire you? How about in Portland?
Your chance to get involved with our neighboring community is finally here, with the opportunity to be a part of MLK Day of Service in Portland!

MLK Day of Service is a day we are able to live into this vision Dr. King had for serving and justice. Though one day of service is never enough to fully celebrate him or what he stood for, we hope you are able to join us for this day of service and recognition of Dr. King.

MLK Day of Service takes place on Monday, Jan. 16. You can register and find more information about what the day will look like here.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email spirituallife@georgefox.edu.

Study Abroad Application Reminder

Thursday, December 1st, 2016

Are you applying to study abroad in the 2017-18 school year?

The deadline for the application is Friday, Jan. 13, 2017; however, remember to start the process before Christmas break! The signature form and the medical form alone can take a few days to complete, so we recommend starting now. Also be aware that the faculty reference form needs to be done by Jan. 13, so be sure to get that to the faculty member as soon as possible.

These last few weeks can be crazy, but get started now! Feel free to stop by the Center for Study Abroad (in Lemmons 9) if you have any questions.

Survey: 2016 election and how George Fox should respond

Thursday, December 1st, 2016

For my Magazine and Feature Writing class (JOUR 330), I am conducting a survey for students relating to their opinions of the 2016 election – how they feel about George Fox staff responding to the event, and how they think the university should react toward it.

Submissions for the survey will remain anonymous; however, students can send their name and a written response toward the subject matter if they wish for their opinions to be read in my feature article. I would prefer to get as many participants as possible before Monday, Dec. 5.

Thank you,
Ian Snively (isnively15@georgefox.edu)
