Next week, Passport Days return. If you plan to do any traveling internationally, such as study abroad or Juniors Abroad,  you will need a passport.

On Thursday and Friday, Sept. 28-29, a U.S. Postal representative will be on the Newberg campus to help you apply for a new passport or renew your passport. He will also be here to take your picture and to answer all of your passport questions.

The cost will vary depending on your passport needs. Please refer to this link for pricing information. You will need two forms of ID:

1. A current driver’s license or state-issued ID card, and
2. An original or certified birth certificate

Payment can be made by check or cash; cash much be the exact amount. This event is open to the university and to the community and will be hosted both days between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Canyon Commons 202. The Friendsview Retirement Community is hosting a garage sale and would like to invite the George Fox community to come out and take advantage of a special “half-off sale” for students and employees.

This summer the university mourned the loss of beloved photography professor John Bennett, who died in a tragic accident on May 23.

During the fall semester, LIBA 100 students are invited to come to the Writing Studio at the ARC on the first floor of the Murdock Learning Resource Center (the library, same room as ARC) to meet with a writing studio instructor for advice on essay assignments, drafting and revising, portfolio preparation, timed writing assessment strategies, and so on. Students can also make appointments with their writing studio instructor through email.

The Writing Studio at the ARC is open in the fall semester (weeks 3-13) each Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon.

Kenn Willson was scheduled to perform his piano concert “Encounters with Bach” on Thursday, Sept. 21. This event has been postponed; a new date will be announced.

This Monday, Sept. 25, the university community is invited to a free presentation by educator and designer Silas Munro at Art Talk, a regularly scheduled gathering that showcases artists from all over the country. Join us from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Chehalem Cultural Center (415 E. Sheridan St.).

Munro engages multi-modal practices that inspire people to be the best versions of themselves in order to effect positive change on society as a whole. His design studio, Poly-Mode, primarily works with cultural institutions and community-based organizations. These collaborations have led to everything from information design of NYC Public City Schools, graphics for protesting activists at Housing Works, publication design for Jacob Lawrence, and the identity of an entire formerly predominately Puerto Rican neighborhood.

A seasoned and dedicated educator, Munro’s pedagogy focuses on image making and typographic systems, expanded and inclusive design studies, our present experience ecology, and novel formats of design pedagogy. He serves as assistant professor of communication arts/graduate graphic design at Otis College of Art and Design, and as guest advisor in the MFA Program in Graphic Design at Vermont College of Fine Arts.

The university community is invited to a special presentation, “Peace and the Environment: Theology,” at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 25, in Hoover 105 (note location change). Join us for good conversation centered around the topic of living out a vibrant faith as a part of an environmentally challenged world with speaker Cherice Bock.

The hope is to be able think deeply together about how our vocation and daily practices can integrate an awareness of current environmental problems and work toward solutions with the love of neighbor and nature in mind. The main goal is to inspire creative thinking through emphasizing the beauty and wonder of God’s creation within a biblical framework of hope and neighborly love. Elective chapel credit is available for students.

Looking for something to do this Saturday? Come join some of the social work faculty as we we participate in the Heel2Heal Freedom Calling run at Cook Park in Tigard. Proceeds go to Freedom Calling, a local Christian organization that will use the funds to raise awareness of sexual exploitation in Portland and to assist survivors of human trafficking with trauma informed counseling services.
