Come join us for Matheteis on Tuesday, Oct. 10, as we discuss the topic “Where is the line between free speech and hate speech?” We’ll meet beginning at 8:30 p.m. in Canyon Commons.
Matheteis is a discussion forum that comes from the Greek word for disciple. Our goal is to provide space for faculty, staff, administrators and students to discuss difficult topics in a cross-disciplinary approach that leads to learning and understanding. We invite four panelists who are given two to three prompt questions ahead of time. After panelists have an opportunity to discuss the prompt questions, audience participants can also ask questions and join the discussion.
In connection to our topic, the focus will particularly be on the events that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia. Please join us for some good conversation and community! Students can also receive elective chapel credit for attending.
Contact Brianna Martin-Ortega (bmartinortega16@georgefox.edu) with any questions.

Undoubtedly, many people are grieving after the tragedy that struck Oct. 1 in Las Vegas. With more than 500 people injured, there is a dire need for supplies, funding and manpower to deal with the devastation.
There is a limited supply of blood for those who are in need and recovering in the hospital. With so much of the demand being focused to Las Vegas victims, the Red Cross will struggle to provide services to those who depend on them every day. This is where you can help: You can donate blood to the American Red Cross on Friday, Oct. 13, on the George Fox campus. The event will be held in the parking lot behind the Hoover Academic Building and is by appointment only.
You can go online for more information and to schedule your appointment, or contact Alyssa Burch at aburch15@georgefox.edu.

What was life in the past like for persons with developmental and other disabilities? The Disability History Exhibit is a 23-panel collage that traces 3,000 years of a seldom-told history.
From antiquity to the present, the exhibit brings viewers through an illustrated timeline that shows society’s attitudes and how they affect the lives of people with disabilities. Viewers experience powerful feelings as they notice similarities between ancient practices and modern stereotypes.
The Disability History Exhibit will be on display in the MLRC through Thursday, Oct. 19, as part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month. For information about the exhibit content, including PDF and html versions of the content, visit this link. Contact Rick Muthiah (rmuthiah@georgefox.edu) if you have questions about the exhibit.
