The Office of Spiritual Life (SpiL) offers students annual opportunities to participate in SpiL trips. These domestic and international trips last anywhere from one to four weeks and challenge students to learn from and work alongside great people and model organizations in the context of their culture, community and complexities.

These trips are designed to share the “Be Known” promise beyond our campus as students meet, befriend and serve “Christ in the least of these,” particularly among people experiencing the various and complex realities of under-resourced communities. Our traveling teams do so by immersing in the cultural contexts and perspectives that exist outside of students’ familiar home culture and utilizing service as a means of nurturing Christian community development.

Our teams go with the mindset of being both learners and servants. Our primary goal through these short-term trips is to recognize, learn from, accentuate, encourage and build upon the assets and gifts of our global neighbors, partner organizations, and the neighbors and communities they live amongst and serve long term. We aspire to listen and learn, encourage and serve alongside to help enhance sustainable ministry and Christian community development, with the goal of coming home with a greater understanding of the kingdom and mission of God and our role in it wherever we live.

One of George Fox’s newest clubs is hosting a meeting tonight (Tuesday) for anyone who is interested in political activism and discussion. Turning Point USA is hosting meetings every Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. in Stevens 101. Come out and present your views on important issues, discuss future events, and advocate with us for limited government, capitalism and free markets!

Do you want to use your creativity and skills to get experience by working for the literary and art magazine at George Fox?

For this year’s publication, The Wineskin is looking to hire an art editor and a graphic designer. Both positions require an eye for beauty and an appreciation for design. The graphic design position requires being capable and comfortable with InDesign.

Do you have Achilles tendon pain? If so, perhaps you would qualify to participate in an Achilles tendinopathy research study conducted by the Physical Therapy Department. Last year’s participants reported significant improvements with pain and function. Participants who complete the 10-week program will receive monetary compensation.

The Students for Life Club is excited to host guest speaker Liberty Pike, who works for Oregon Right to Life, tomorrow (Wednesday), Nov. 8. She will be addressing the issue of abortion and the depth and importance of the pro-life cause from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in Hoover 103.

Pike will also be talking about how to love those who have been affected by abortion and what our actions should be to balance grace and truth together. All are welcome to the event, and we hope to bring a light to a topic that is so easily pushed into the darkness and never talked about.

The Intercultural Resource Center invites you to participate in our unique leadership program that will encourage growth, relationship and cultural awareness. This unique student leadership opportunity is for students who are seeking to be culturally engaged and who have a desire to see change take place on campus. In addition to training with your peers on a weekly basis, students involved in the program will be attending the SCORR (Student Congress of Racial Reconciliation Conference) in the month of February, hosted at Biola University.

The Office of Student Life is sponsoring “Real Conversations about Sexual Violence.” Join us from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, in Canyon Commons 101, 102 and 103.

Shannon Buckmaster, a George Fox alumna, will share her survivor’s experience of sexual assault. Attendees will also learn about important on- and off-campus resources for survivors. Elective chapel credit is available.

The university community is invited to Art Talk tonight (Monday) as graphic designer David Carson speaks from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Chehalem Cultural Center (415 E. Sheridan St.).

Carson is an American graphic designer, art director and surfer. He is best known for his innovative magazine design and use of experimental typography. He was the art director for the magazine Ray Gun, in which he employed much of the typographic and layout style for which he is known. In particular, his widely imitated aesthetic defined the so-called “grunge typography” era.

There will be food and drink at the talk, as well as a question-and-answer time.

Hello Commuters!

Our commuter team is putting together some cool stuff based off your feedback to the Commuter Life Needs Assessment survey we sent out! One popular response many of you mentioned was to have some sort of small-group system set in place to get in touch with reps and other commuters on a more frequent basis.

Below is a list of available times that the commuter reps will be in the FoxHole to meet with whoever is wanting to join them. This is an intentional space for the reps to get to know and connect with you, as well as space for commuters to get connected with each other on a consistent basis. If you are interested in joining one of these groups, feel free to go to the FoxHole at a time below that you are available!

Here is when the groups are taking place:

• Brianna: Monday at 4 p.m.
• Jay: Tuesdays at 2 p.m.
• Ashlee: Tuesday at 3 p.m.
• Whitne: Thursday at 11 a.m.
• Bailey: Wednesday at 3 p.m.
• Ben: Friday at 4 p.m.

Whatever happens in the hour is up to your groups! We hope that this can be a time for you to build community with one another. We hope to see you there!

Participate in International Cultural Celebration Week!

One of the exciting events of International Cultural Celebration Week is the Cultural Fair. The Cultural Fair is a two-hour period during which students have the chance to share their own cultural experience, or a culture they feel particularly drawn to, with the George Fox community by hosting a table displaying that culture. It is a wonderful opportunity for other students to taste, feel, hear, see and learn about other countries, regions and backgrounds.

There is still a need for students to participate in this wonderful event which will occur on Wednesday, Nov. 15 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Canyon Commons. Would you be interested organizing a booth? You will be reimbursed up to $50 for any items that need to be printed or purchased. We hope you will consider participating!

Catalyst Alternative High School in Newberg is looking for math tutors.
