‘The Burn’ worship time set aside tonight in the Stevens Center

Thursday, March 8th, 2018

The SpiL Shalom team invites the campus community to an on-campus worship event, “The Burn,” tonight (Friday) from 6 p.m. to midnight in the Stevens Center. The music will continue all night, as led by 12 different student worship groups.

Our goal: To make intentional space for God to move and speak. What does it look like to worship God through the “highs and lows” … when we feel like it and even when we don’t… when we are happy and well fed and when we are tired/cranky? We are challenging students to commit to the entirety of the six-hour event to worship Jesus and sit in his love with expectancy. However, please feel free to come and go as you need.

We will also have some stations/communion available. There is so much potential to bring all of our groups together for a night of unity; we hope you will join us!

Housing selection deadline is just two weeks away

Wednesday, March 7th, 2018

Housing applications for the 2018-19 academic year are due by Thursday, March 22. Make sure to complete the following by the deadline!

  1. Login to the Housing and Meal Plan Intent application and fill it out by March 22.
  2. Have you paid your returning student application fee? This one-time application fee must be paid by March 23 in order to go through the entire application. To check whether or not your fee has been paid, click on “Your Profile and Details” on the home page of your application.
  3. Think about who you want to be living with. If you are choosing to go through housing selection as a group, you can create your roommate group in the application. Remember, your roommates must have started their application and paid their application fee in order to be searchable in the form.
  4. Think about where you want to live. The size of your group will determine what housing options are available. It would be wise to be thinking through multiple locations and have a plan in case you do not get your top choice.

Additional details regarding housing selection are posted on the Housing and Residence Life website.

Visiting physiologist speaks on isotopes and adaptive radiations today

Wednesday, March 7th, 2018

The university’s Department of Biology invites you to a special guest lecture presented by Dr. Carlos Martinez del Rio, professor of zoology and physiology at the University of Wyoming, today (Thursday) at 5 p.m. in Hoover 105.

Martinez del Rio has published more than 150 papers on physiological ecology and natural history and has received wide recognition for his substantial contributions to stable isotope ecology. He has explored how birds disperse mistletoe seeds, why hummingbirds can digest table sugar but robins cannot, and why variable temperatures make hawkmoths uncertain pollinators.

Most recently, he’s studied stable isotopes to find out how much white-winged doves depend on saguaros and why there are so few marine songbirds. The title of his presentation is “From isotopes to adaptive radiations: A cyborg’s perspective.”

This lecture is open to the university community and the public. Please contact the biology department (ext. 2710) with any questions.
