Alumnus invites university community to Great Turkey Fumble event Nov. 22

A George Fox alumnus invites the university community to join in the Great Turkey Fumble 5K/1K run this year on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 22. This event is a benefit for Newberg FISH. Last year, the event raised about $3,000 and 280 pounds of nonperishable food for Newberg FISH.

Don’t miss game night and ice cream tailgate party happening this week

Don’t miss game night this Friday, Oct. 19, from 7 to 10 p.m. in Hadlock Student Center. Hang out and eat or play video games, board games and Nerf Wars for prizes. Grand prize is a $75 gift card.

You also won’t want to miss out on enjoying some ice cream at the Linfield football tailgate party on Saturday, Oct. 20, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Bauman parking lot.

Next week, come watch Ant Man or hang out in the Hadlock Student Center on Thursday, Oct. 25, from 8 to 11 p.m. Popcorn and snacks will be provided.

Plan also to attend Fall Fest at Heiser Farms on Friday, Oct. 26, from 7 to 10 p.m. Pumpkins, a corn maze and food are included. Sign up here for a bus ride and ticket.

University community invited to worship night Oct. 27

George Fox’s own Marina Alcala, a co-leader of the youth ministry at Christian Church of Hillsboro (CCH), invites the university community to a night of worship at CCH at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27. 

The service will be hosted by the youth and young adults group at CCH and Iglesia de Cristo Agape. Rev. Steve Jackson, the church’s senior pastor, will give the message that night. He recently joined CCH after serving as a missionary in Zambia for several years.

The church is located at 540 N.E. Edison St., in Hillsboro. Come worship with us!

Important info for Saturday’s home football game

Our Family Weekend football game against Linfield is scheduled for this Saturday, Oct. 20! Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. 

Be sure to move your cars out of the Bauman parking lot and the tennis court parking lot on Friday evening. This space will be dedicated to football fan parking, activities and vendors on Saturday. No parking will be permitted in these lots.

Tailgate Activities
Join us in the Bauman parking lot at noon for fun Family Weekend tailgate activities!

Entrances to the Football Game
There will be two entrances into the game, and both are located in the Bauman parking lot directly behind the stadium.

Wheeler Sports Center Closed
The Wheeler Sports Center will be closed from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. This means the basketball gym, racquetball courts and locker rooms will be closed. There will be security officers who will ask you where you are headed; just let them know that you are going to work out.

Bauman Walkway
The sidewalk located between the football stadium and Bauman will be closed. Please walk around the building and do not move the barricade.

Circle Parking Lot
The circle parking lot near Wheeler will be closed for the day. This space is reserved for officials to park in. Officials will arrive as early as 10 a.m.

Sideline Passes
No one will be granted field access without a sideline pass. Sideline passes are issued to those who are required to work and/or have official business during the game.

Tickets
Students and staff can show their ID cards at the gate to get into the game free of charge. In addition, all George Fox alumni who check in at the Information Table will receive free admission to the game.

Additional tickets can be purchased online or at the gate. Or, visit the athletics ticket website.

We hope to see you at the game at 1:30 p.m. and the tailgates prior to that!

Feeling stressed? Consider attending “Facing The Real World: A Stress Management Class” beginning this month. Sessions begin Thursday, Oct. 25, and meet each Thursday through Nov. 15 for an hour each time (5 to 6 p.m.) in the Health and Counseling Center.

The class is free. Come learn strategies to manage and overcome your stress and anxiety! Develop the skills to be free from unnecessary worry and fear.

Enter debate competition for a chance to win Amazon gift card

All are invited to participate in a debate competition known as the “Policy Debate” on campus on Saturday, Nov. 3, in the Hoover lobby. The team check-in, opening ceremony and coaching session will take place between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The first debate round will commence at 1:45 p.m., and the final will finish at 8 p.m.

This event will focus on chosen topics that teams of four will debate on over the course of three preliminary rounds, plus a final round. Participants will be expected to attend the full event, including debates, meals and ceremonies. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served to all participants throughout the day.

No previous experience in a debate is required. Each individual person on the winning team will receive $125 Amazon gift cards. Smaller amounts will be given to other participants who place lower.

The Health and Counseling Center will be joining forces with the School of Nursing for two flu shot clinics on campus.

Get your flu shot for $20 (free for students on PacificSource student insurance plan) on either Thursday, Nov. 8, or Thursday, Nov. 15, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Nov. 8 session will be in Canyon Commons; the Nov. 15 clinic will be in Roberts 117.

Nursing students will administer the vaccinations while under the direct supervision of nursing faculty as well as the university’s school nurse. Come support our nursing students!

Join in fun of fencing tonight in Hadlock Student Center

For those of you who don’t know, the Fencing Club is open to all levels of experience in fencing, from novice to “grown up with a sword in their hand.”

The purpose of the club is to have fun learning how to fence and to get a chance to have fun every Wednesday sword fighting. We supply the equipment, but if you already have equipment that you would like to use feel free to bring it along.
