Update on chapel requirements

Tuesday, March 17th, 2020

As the university has once again modified the spring semester calendar, we will have five fewer weeks together for worship as a community this year. In light of this, we are decreasing your total chapel requirement to reflect the number of weeks that we are together.

You will notice on your MyGeorgeFox account a decrease in your total chapel credits remaining to five fewer for this year.

  • As was announced last fall, students who began this academic year with junior standing will have the fall of their senior year to complete their chapel credit.
  • All students will be eligible for chapel podcasts. We have posted podcasts from fall of 2017 to spring 2020 for your convenience. Details about the podcast reflections, new offerings, and other experiences are available on our George Fox chapel website by Monday morning.

We will also advertise these in the Daily Bruin and on Instagram @gfuspil.  Questions about chapel credit can be directed to the Office for Spiritual Life at spirituallife@georgefox.edu or 503-554-2320.

Hadlock Student Center is closing

Tuesday, March 17th, 2020

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of the Hadlock Student Center effective today (Wednesday).

We will look at a tentative reopening on Monday, April 13, depending on developments in the coming weeks. Recent Oregon state guidelines limiting public gatherings to 25 people will play a part in our decision-making process. Additional information will be posted on the HSC webpage and through university resources.

During the closure, HSC staff will look to deliver alternative fitness options for the George Fox community through an online format or in an outdoor environment with adequate consideration for social distancing. Efforts will also be made to thoroughly sanitize the facility in preparation for reopening.

Questions? Contact studentcenter@georgefox.edu.

Donate much-needed items to the food bank

Tuesday, March 17th, 2020

During these uncertain times, we have found that more students are using the food bank in Roberts Center. Many of our students work in food service, and their hours are getting cut.

Please consider purchasing one or more of the following items when you go to the store:

  • Boxed meals like Tuna Helper and Hamburger Helper (we have a lot of both hamburger and tuna)
  • Spaghetti sauce in cans (students often put their food in a backpack and glass jars are not easy to transport in this fashion)
  • Cereal
  • Oatmeal
  • Canned fruit
  • Peanut butter
  • Jelly
  • Gluten-free items
  • Non-dairy beverages for cereal and coffee

Please bring your donations to the student life office. Thank you for helping our students during this difficult time. For more information, contact bruincommunitypantry@georgefox.edu.
