Are you a returning student or an employee who has a chronic illness/medical condition, has celiac disease/gluten intolerance, or is on the autism spectrum? Disability & Accessibility Services is looking for leaders/facilitators for these three different affinity groups on the Newberg campus.
The goal is to provide a safe space for students with these conditions, diagnoses, and/or restrictions to connect with other students with similar experiences in order to reduce feelings of isolation and build community.
If this is something you’re interested in or would just like more information, contact Andrea Byerley (abyerley@georgefox.edu) in Disability & Accessibility Services.

Campus Recreation is hosting a Wilderness First Aid certification course at the Hadlock Student Center on Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 17-18. Students, employees and community members are all eligible to participate.
The course is a two-day introduction to general wilderness medicine concepts and basic life support skills. It is perfect for anyone who likes to spend time outside. This course provides relevant and realistic first-aid training and is taught by a professional instructor with significant patient care and backcountry experience.
To read more about this type of course, go to the Wilderness Medical Associates website.
You can register for the course at the Hadlock Student Center here. Please register as soon as possible to ensure your spot. We have reached our minimum number of participants, so it is confirmed and running.
If you have questions about the course, please reach out to AJ Heil at aheil@georgefox.edu.
The Hadlock Student Center offers affordable group rentals for kayaks, paddleboards, river tubes, yard games, hammocks, and other popular equipment. If you are interested in reserving multiple items for a group outing in August or September, please do this as soon as possible to ensure equipment inventory is available and to help us prepare for your outing.
Many group coordinators have inquired for sports teams, student welcome activities, and staff bonding and residence life events. These items are also available to any students, employees or alumni for personal outings and for George Fox-related outings. However, things tend to book up fast for August and September, so please act now to ensure availability for your outing.
If you need help planning an outing, please reach out to AJ Heil at aheil@georgefox.edu for suggestions on locations and logistics.
If you are interested in making a reservation for any of our equipment, please visit our website here for pricing, availability, and to make an online reservation. If you have difficulties making a reservation, you can also call or email the Hadlock Student Center at studentcenter@georgefox.edu.

Hello dance enthusiasts! The Swing Dance Club is continuing to host our “Swing Over Summer” events from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Friday through the end of August at Jaquith Park in Newberg.
Our goal for the lessons is to kick-start our club for the upcoming academic year. That being said, both students and employees are welcome, and there is no charge to participate. If you want to have some fun, learn a new skill, and get some bonus dancing practice in before the school year starts, then this is the place for you!
There are no requirements for participation, although it’s recommended you have an athletic pair of shoes and a water bottle. If you have any questions or would like to be added to the email list, contact Mark Berglin at mberglin19@georgefox.edu.
The city of Newberg will be conducting what they call “large water meter testing†today (Monday). The Newberg campus has both large water meters with bypass valves and large water meters without bypass valves. Buildings being serviced by meters without bypass valves will experience a disruption in water service during testing times.
Locations of large water meters with bypass valves (that should not experience disruption in water service):
Locations of water meters without bypasses:
The city has stated that the testing should take about 30 minutes per meter. During that time the water may be off completely, unless it has a bypass valve. Questions can be directed to the plant services office (plantservices@georgefox.edu).
We are looking for students who are living near Newberg this summer who would like to be a part of a photo shoot with our marketing and communications team. Grab some friends and email Missy Downs (mdowns@georgefox.edu) if you are interested in a trip over to the Oregon Coast, a chance to be on our social media, and maybe even a billboard!
If you are available on weekdays, please let us know by Friday, July 30, if you are interested in participating.

The vehicle registration portal is now open for all students to register their vehicles for parking permits for the 2021-22 school year!
Here are some things to be aware of:
Questions? Call the security office at 503-554-2090 during business hours, or email Elrike Shaw at eshaw@georgefox.edu.
Staff, including summertime student workers, are permitted to park in all campus parking lots; however, we do ask that you stay out of reserved parking spaces.
These spaces are reserved 24/7 and are to be occupied only by the department staff indicated. Additionally, handicapped spaces are to be used only by vehicles displaying a valid state handicapped permit. They are not for dropping off or visiting without a valid handicapped permit. This is an Oregon state law and is enforceable 24/7/365.
Please don’t park in the marked Visitor parking area in the Stevens parking lot. When these spaces fill up with staff vehicles, our visitors don’t know where to park. Prospective students and their families are visiting campus, and we want to help to make their experience exceptional!
In addition, we have reserved 10-minute parking spots at Mail Services that are meant for running in and grabbing your mail, or for pick-up of heavy packages. They are not for long-term parking.
Please help us by staying out of any reserved spaces. Thank you for your help!
Questions? Call Campus Public Safety at 503-554-2090 or email Elrike Shaw (eshaw@georgefox.edu).
