Performing strength training exercises helps to maintain function and reduce the risk of injury. It is recommended that we strength train at least two days a week. However, only about 20% of people meet this recommendation.
In a free 30-minute course offered through the College of Physical Therapy, you can learn how to strength train at home without owning specific gym equipment. Get all the details here.
Interested? Email Jason Brumitt at jbrumitt@georgefox.edu to participate.

Campus Public Safety will be conducting its annual Bicycle Roundup this Monday, May 9. If you are staying on campus over the summer and plan to keep a bike here, please stop by the Campus Public Safety office to get a sticker ID so that your bike will not be removed.
Bicycle Rules for Summer
At the end of the spring semester, a university-wide bicycle “clean-up” is done. Bicycles that are illegally parked, unregistered or inoperable are impounded. Bicycle racks need to be cleared to do routine maintenance to the racks and surrounding areas.
In order to accommodate the maintenance of the bicycle rack areas, bicycles may not be stored on campus during the summer semester. If you are not going to be on campus using your bicycles during the summer, please remove it. Bicycle claims can be made at the Campus Public Safety/parking services office.
Students using their bikes during the summer must move their bikes to the nearest rack of their summer housing.
Bicycles NOT picked up from the impound lot within 60 days will be forwarded to local charities at the discretion of the Campus Public Safety department. Junk bicycles will be recycled.
If you have questions, contact Karen Toohey at ktoohey@georgefox.edu.

Wooden rings, spoons and flower pots are just some of the beginner items you can make with the Maker Hub’s Teknatool Wood Lathe. The wood lathe is a machine very similar to the metal lathe in the machine shop.
To start, two free-spinning center points on each side of a wood piece clamp the wood between them and hold it centered. It operates by spinning a piece of wood stock at a variable speed, and lets the operator create round objects.
Unlike the metal lathe, there is not a cutter secured to the machine that is moved into place to cut. On the wood lathe, an operator will instead use long handled chisels to carve away the wood.
There are a wide variety of projects that can be done on the wood lathe, some easier than others, and all requiring a different need for skills and tools. For more information, check out the Maker Hub’s Wiki Page and watch this video to see how it works.
The Maker Hub exists as a resource and creative outlet for the entire George Fox community (yes, including non-engineers!). We are looking for student aces. A student ace is simply an expert on a piece of equipment who helps train other students on the usage of that equipment and gains extra privileges within the Maker Hub.
Please email makerhub@georgefox.edu if you would like to get connected or have any questions.

Students, employees and alumni are eligible to rent equipment from the Hadlock Student Center throughout the summer. Popular summer rental items include stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, water tubes, tents, sleeping bags, hammocks, and yard games.
New rental items that will be available this summer include mountain bikes, bike racks, and a multi-person stand-up paddleboard that can hold two to four people.
Summer is our most popular rental season, so we highly recommend making a reservation (no money down) to reserve your equipment online. Please also keep in mind that Hadlock is closed on the weekends, so equipment for the weekend needs to be picked up prior to Saturday and Sunday and dropped off after the weekend concludes.
To see what equipment is available and to make reservations, please go here. If you have questions, please contact AJ Heil at aheil@georgefox.edu.
