By popular request, starting this coming Monday we will be offering almost 60 new and exciting grocery type items in Le Shana to help fill your cupboards. They include assorted cereals, Kraft Mac & Cheese, Pop Tarts, spaghetti sauces, canned fruit, condiments, bacon, fresh eggs, PBJ as well as a limited supply of toiletries and paper goods.

We’re also changing the hours we’re open to hopefully better match your schedules as well:

Monday – Thursday:
7am – 11am                 
3pm – 6pm                
7pm – 11pm

Fridays
7am – 1pm

As always, please let us know your thoughts and we’re always open to new ideas of what you’d like for us to have available. Remember, anyone and everyone can come in to Le Shana and enjoy these and the best smoothies in town!

US Postal Service Rep will be on site to take photos and help fill out paperwork.  If you already have your photo, they will help with the paperwork.

You need to bring both of these:

  • Original Birth Certificate – not a copy
  • Government Issued Photo ID (Ex. Driver’s License; Oregon ID)
      (GFU Photo ID will not work)
  • Payment:  Checks only (No cash or credit cards)
      Two checks will need to be written one to USPS; one to State Department

Pre-order in the Bruins Den during lunch during the next two weeks (Feb 5-9, 12-16) The t-shirts are $8 and the money will go towards the May Serve trip to Brazil this year.

There’s two options:
You can buy a shirt for yourself, which is sweet _or/ and_ you can buy a shirt for a child in Brazil and we will take it down with us when we go which is even sweeter.

Stop by our table in the Bruin’s Den during lunch with your $8 and we’ll take down your name and contact info. Shirts will be in by the end of February, early March- We’ll contact you when they come in so you can pick up your shirt!

Creative Writing Contest

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Co-sponsored by the Center for Global Studies and Center for Peace and Justice and the Department of Writing and Literature ~
Skene Award for Fiction and Literary Nonfiction

Contestants should submit two short pieces (under 1000 words) or one longer piece (1000 to 3000 words).  Writing will be judged on originality, quality of expression, and significance of the work’s contribution to the spirit of reconciliation.

Atkinson Award for Poetry

Contestants should submit up to three poems, none of which may exceed 36 lines. Writing will be judged solely on artistic merit. 

Rules

Ø       A prize of $200.00 will be awarded to the winner of each contest.

Ø       Four honorable mentions will also be named.

Ø       All George Fox University students are eligible.

Ø       There are no application fees.

Ø       Initial screening will be by Fox faculty. 

Ø       Winners will be chosen by off-campus professionals.

Ø       Deadline is March 16.

Materials must be submitted as hard copy and as WORD attachments to Sue Mills in the Writing and Literature Department  ( smills@georgefox.edu)

If so, and you will be a traditional undergraduate student during the 2007-08 academic year, you may be qualified to apply for the George Fox Alumni Association Scholarship Program.  Each year, the George Fox Alumni Association awards 16 scholarships to current students who are direct descendents (children or grandchildren) of George Fox alumni.  In total, the GFU Alumni Association will award $17,000 to students for the 2007-08 academic year.

For February we are celebrating Black History Month with a focus on African Heritage! 
 
Join us in welcoming the Watoto Children’s Choir of Uganda on Monday, February 5th from 11:30-1:30 in the BON.  As well as an amazing performance of song and dance by 18 adorable children, there will be a special African cuisine and facts/information so you can learn a little more about what it would be like to grow up in Africa!  Don’t miss it!

Summer Language Study Scholarship Opportunity

Middlebury College in Vermont provides students with unlimited opportunities to speak and study their target language. Most students gain a year or more of college-level language learning in one intensive summer session.

The languages offered are: Arabic, Chinese, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Russian.

New this summer is the Kathryn Wasserman Davis scholarship which covers the full cost of the Language Study Program at Middlebury.
