If you have not completed a summer address card yet or replied to Linda Sartwell’s email please complete one of the following:

1.  Fill out a summer address card, found in lobbies of Beebe and Sub Post Offices.
       a. Indicate if you want your mailbox left open or where you want your mail forwarded.
2.  Reply with your summer address information to the email from Linda Sartwell.
3.  Fill out a summer address card using this link.

Two laptops needed for Rwandan ministers

Have a laptop you could donate or sell for a low price?

A group of men and women being trained for pastoral work and other leadership positions in their churches in Rwanda would like to learn the basics of computer operation to help them get jobs to support their ministry. For this training, at least two laptops are needed with Windows and Office on them.

If you have such a computer you’re not using, the Juniors Abroad group going to Rwanda in May could deliver it. If interested, contact Lon Fendall (Center for Global Studies/Center of Peace and Justice) at ext. 2685 or lfendall@georgefox.edu.

Farewell event for Mark Benjamin scheduled April 30

Mark Benjamin (Spiritual Life) and his family will be leaving our community at the end May. To honor them, we are throwing an open house/celebration/going away party from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at the Spiritual Life House. Mark is moving to Georgia for the summer and eventually to North Carolina to help with a church plant. Feel free to stop in whenever you can and let Mark know how much you appreciate him!

Greenroom service scheduled April 27

A Greenroom service will be held on “Dead Day” Monday, April 27, at 7 p.m. Come to the Amphitheater (if it’s not rainy*) and worship as a community one last time this school year. This is a great way to take a break from studying and prepare for a week of finals.

*If the weather is bad, it will be held in Bauman Auditorium.

Ushers are needed for the university’s Baccalaureate ceremony on Saturday, May 2. Ushers need to arrive at Bauman Auditorium at 8:45 a.m. The ceremony typically lasts until 11 a.m.

Ushers need to dress appropriately for the event: Men in dress slacks and collared shirt; women in dress pants, skirt and nice blouse, or dress.

Cars on campus during summer break

Attention Junior’s Abroad and May Serve Students:

If you plan to leave your car on campus during while on your trip, you must bring your car keys to the Security Office in order to do so.

Any car left unattended on campus will be considered abandoned and will be towed. The campus is booked all summer with groups, and we are unable to accommodate extra vehicles.

Summer bike storage in Coffin Hall

If you are planning on storing your bike on campus for the summer, there is limited space available in the basement of Coffin Hall. Bikes that are stored in Coffin for the summer need to be securely locked and have a storage label attached to it with your name and contact information. Storage labels are available from your Resident Assistant.

If you currently have a bike being stored in Coffin and are graduating, please make sure you take this with you. All bikes left in Coffin without a storage label will be donated to charity effective Monday, May 11, 2009. Please take the appropriate action before this time.

Final concert of spring semester plays Friday

This is a reminder that the Department of Performing Arts will present its Spring Concert, the final performance of the academic year, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 24, in Bauman Auditorium. The concert will feature the Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Women’s Chorale and the Symphonic Band. Please come and support the dedicated work of our music students and faculty as they close the spring performance season.

Engineering department hosts robot competition Thursday

Please join the engineering department for its annual Freshmen Robot Challenge from 1:45 to 3:15 p.m. Thursday, April 23, in the EHS Atrium. Come and see the robotic vehicles battle it out as they navigate through the obstacle course, or as the engineering students call it, “The Gauntlet.” Refreshments will be provided.

Theatre celebration event scheduled April 27 in Wood-Mar

If you have been involved in any of the George Fox University theatre productions for the 2008-09 school year, come join us for an evening of celebration and thanksgiving for a successful and blessed season. We will host a celebration featuring food and beverages, entertainment and awards from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 27, in Wood-Mar Auditorium. Also, next year’s theatrical season will be announced.

Phase II donation program returns as semester nears end

At the end of every school year, many students leave behind good, usable items. These items often include blankets, clothing, kitchen supplies, small appliances, radios, room decorations, little tables, etc. In an effort to keep the dumpsters from overflowing and to be better stewards of resources, Phase II was initiated. Plant Services is happy to receive anything that students do not want to take home.

The items gathered are sorted and made available to student summer help and staff, but most of the items are given to different organizations in the local area, including Rescue Mission, Shelters and Love INC. Barrels will be placed in the lobbies of the dorms and central living areas, as well as on the porches of the Weesner, Beals, Hoskins, Munn, Villa Road Houses and Newlin Apartments.

Note: Please do not donate damaged or soiled items. Also, please do not place trash in the barrels labeled “Phase II.” There are drop boxes for your trash located strategically around campus.

Donated items will be stored at Wright House (515 Villa Road) and will be available to employees/summer students after the first week of May.
