Terry Huffman (School of Education) will present the fall 2009 Fall Faculty Lecture, “American Indian Higher Educational Experiences: Cultural Visions and Personal Journeys” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, in Hoover 105. The lecture series has been a George Fox tradition since 1955 and is hosted by the Faculty Development Committee.

Interested in experiencing life in other countries? Come to the Foxhole from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, and hear stories from George Fox GoED (study abroad) alums. Learn about GoED study-abroad opportunities the best way possible.

GoED representatives will also be in the Bruin Den Monday, Oct. 5, and Tuesday, Oct. 6, during lunch (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.). Swing by the table to chat and hear more about study-abroad opportunities in Africa, Thailand and Bolivia.

New Playwrights submissions due Oct. 12

GFU Theatre Honors Society is planning the fall New Playwrights Festival,and looking for plays written by students!  Scripts should in PDF or Word format and no more than 20 pages or 30 minutes in length.

Nursing students invited to Student Nurses Association meeting Oct. 12

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) will present a workshop on the basics of American Psychological Association (APA) style for citations and references on Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Stevens 207. Chinese students share about their culture at Oct. 1 gathering

Join student speakers and guests as they share their stories and cultures at a “Coffee and Culture” gathering at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, in the Moore House. This is a fun and casual social event where you can sip some coffee, eat some treats, and get to know your George Fox neighbors.

This month features some of your fellow Chinese students speaking about Chinese National Day and The Moon Festival. The Moore House is located on Sheridan Street across from the Pennington dorm.

Information on Japanese exchange program offered Sept. 29

Representatives from JET (the Japan Exchange & Teaching program) will be on campus to provide information about it at noon Tuesday, Sept. 29, in Lemmons Center’s Room 12. The JET program provides a unique opportunity to teach English to elementary, junior high and high school students in the Japanese public school system. The program helps to develop foreign language education in Japan and to promote international exchange at the local level through fostering ties between Japanese youth and JET program participants from around the world.

The program offers two positions: You may become a coordinator for international relations or you may be selected to serve as an assistant language teacher. Come and learn from JET alumni about their experiences.
