Roommate signup

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Thinking About Roommates for Next Semester?

 • Consider the many benefits of rooming with an international student:

 • Expand your understanding of people from other cultures.

 • Sharpen your communication skills.

 • Grow in your skills in being more culturally sensitive.

 • Be more prepared to live and work in a multicultural society.

 • By exposing yourself to people from other cultures, you better understand our own culture.

 • You have an opportunity to serve as a cultural ambassador, helping international students to better understand and appreciate American people and U.S. Culture.

 • You have an opportunity to share and live your faith with students, many of whom have had very little exposure to Christianity.

 • Develop a close relationship with someone from another country.  This relationship could be life long.

Please contact Alex Pia or Dianna McIntyre in the International Student Services Office if you would like to be room with an international student.

New art exhibits are up in the library

Monday, March 8th, 2010

New art exhibitions are up in the library. Following is a description of each.

Cornell Boxes and Paper Sculptures
Students in Karen Bowdoin’s Design 2 class have created Cornell boxes, inspired by the 3-D artist Joseph Cornell. Each student developed a personal concept and, using allegory and symbolism, built their own boxes and designed the display within, choosing items to enhance their theme.

Also, in Bowdoin’s 3-D design class, students created two- to three-foot-high 3-D forms from the two-dimensional material of paper. All sculptures are made of white paper, and a variety of natural and mythical animal forms are on display.

Illustration Class Posters
Bob Bredemeier’s Illustration class display includes commercial art design and posters on controversial topics.
