My name is Jennifer Salame and I am part of the Islam and the West Class. My research group including Brittany Wick, Bethany Muhr, Hannah Fisher, and Man Ho Wong would like to send out a survey titled “Perceptions of the hijab” to the student body.

2. Newberg Downtown Survey

Actor needed for student film

Cinema & Media Communications students need a male actor to act in a film project for the Camera & Lighting class. It’s a short, comical script about what happens when a Twilight-obsessed girl meets a real vampire. Shooting is expected to take place this weekend, November 19-20.

James Pick presents senior piano recital Saturday

The Department of Performing Arts invites you to James Pick’s senior piano recital this Saturday, Nov. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium. The program will include compositions by Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Chopin and Muczynski. Violinist Kathleen Lavengood and cellist Jerry Bobbe will join James onstage for Muczynski’s First Piano Trio.

Film ‘Reel Bad Arabs’ to be shown Wednesday in Hoover 210

Invisible Children tour event is Tuesday in Hoover 105

Correction to Cultural Celebration Week schedule: The Invisible Children “Face-to-Face” Tour event is not Wednesday, but is Tuesday, Nov. 16. This event is co-hosted by the Center for Peace and Justice and Center for Global Studies and Invisible Children. The evening will include a showing of the 40-minute film Go!, which documents three American students who traveled to Uganda, met students their age, and through these relationships saw their lives changed.

In addition, two Ugandans, James and Robert, who have lived through the war and have been involved with Invisible Children’s partner school program, will share their stories and address ways in which students can respond and participate in advocating on behalf of northern Uganda’s children. This will include a talk-back session with a question-and-answer time following the film.

Symphonic Band performs free concert Thursday

The university’s Symphonic Band and the Newberg Community Band will perform a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, in Bauman Auditorium.

The Symphonic Band will perform Dies Natalis, by Howard Hanson; Ave Maria (Angelus Domini), by Franz Biebl, arranged by Robert C. Cameron; and Commando March, by Samuel Barber. The band is directed by Pat Vandehey. The Hanson piece is a small preview of the upcoming Christmas Concert.

The Newberg Community Band, directed by Dick Elliott, will perform Loudoun Praises, by Brian Balmages; Colonial Airs and Dances, by Robert Jager; and Symphonic Fanfare, by Mark Camphouse.

Players, coaches still needed for powerpuff football game

The Battle for the Blue Goose (powderpuff football tournament) sign-ups are available on the intramural sports bulletin board between the two windows of the bookstore. Anyone interested in participating as players or coaches can sign up there. We are particularly in need of junior women to sign up to fill out their team’s roster.

The event takes place on Sunday, Dec. 5, with games beginning at 1:30 p.m. and the championship game to follow at 2:45 p.m. on Colcord Field (the track field).

Worms arrive on campus Friday for pick-up in front of SUB

The worms are arriving on Friday. It took the worms longer to crawl to campus than expected, but they have arrived. Come to the front of the Student Union Building between noon and 1:30 p.m. today (Friday) to pick up your worms, if you have already signed up for a worm compost bin.

If you haven’t signed up, there may be extra worms for you. Also, you can pick up some worm T-shirts for just $10. Happy worm-herding!
