Did you know that George Fox has a self-service password reset tool available? Login to MyGFU, and click on the “Password Reset Questions” link in the Account Management section to set it up. You will need to select and answer two security questions from the drop-down lists there.
After that, be sure that you have a non-GFU e-mail address submitted within your personal record. To update/verify your non-GFU e-mail address in MyGFU:
1. Click on “Self Service”
2. Click on “Campus Personal Information”
3. Click on “E-mail Addresses”
4. If you do not have a personal or non-GFU e-mail address listed, click on the “Add An Email Address” button to add one to your account
5. Click the “Save” button to complete the process
In the future, if you forget your password, click the “Forgot Password” button on the MyGFU login screen to request a temporary password. You will be asked to provide the answers to your security questions. The temporary password will be sent to your non-GFU e-mail, allowing you to log into MyGFU and change your university login password.
Please contact the Service Desk (503-554-2569) if you have any questions or need assistance with the setting up your security questions.

Nasser Abufarha, a Palestinian-American scholar and social entrepreneur, will present a free lecture, “Insisting on Life: Martyrdom and Fair Trade in Palestine,” on campus Wednesday, Jan. 19. A guest of the university’s Center for Peace and Justice, Abufarha will speak from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Hoover 105.
Abufarha is the founder of the Palestine Fair Trade Association and Canaan Fair Trade, which is bringing Palestinian olive oil and other traditional foods to mainstream American and European markets, while also improving economic conditions for more than 1,700 farmers in the West Bank. Canaan Fair Trade today is the largest exporter of certified fair trade and organic Palestinian olive oil to America and Europe.
Abufarha is the author of The Making of a Human Bomb: An Ethnography of Palestinian Resistance. The book, described as “required reading” by the American Journal of Sociology, explains how geographic separation of Palestinians and mimetic actions to Israeli state repression will continue to be a source of violence until Palestinians can experience actual rootedness in their land and start to explore alternative exchanges between themselves and Israelis.

The university’s Center for Peace and Justice has collaborated with the Friends of William Stafford to bring several notable poets, including the current and former poet laureates of Oregon, a documentary film maker, and our very own Ed Higgins to the Newberg campus Thursday, Jan. 13, to honor the life and work of this beloved Oregon poet who strove to promote peace and justice through his creativity.
Thursday’s events are free and open to the public. There is no registration required. The day begins with a screening of Haydn Reiss’s new documentary on Stafford, Every War has Two Losers, featuring a discussion with Reiss himself afterward. The event closes at the Coffee Cottage with a musical performance by Bill Joliff and Seth Martin.

For the past few years, George Fox has utilized FOXALERT as a method of notifying the Newberg campus faculty, staff and students in the event of a campus-wide emergency. Each semester we update the FOXALERT database with your current contact information that we download from MyGFU. For this system to work, it is vital that you take a few minutes to update your contact information.
We are planning a test of the FoxAlert system within the next few weeks!
If you have not done so recently, please update your contact information by signing into MyGFU. Following are the steps to take:
- Login to your MyGFU account
- Click on SELF SERVICE
- Click on CAMPUS PERSONAL INFORMATION
- Click on PHONE NUMBERS
- On the PHONE TYPE pick list, choose the phone type you are registering.
- Type in your contact information
- Click SAVE
- If you need to add a number, first click on ADD A PHONE NUMBER
- Make sure you click SAVE after each change
In the near future, we will test FOXALERT as well as give you information on opting in or out to receive text messages. Your safety is very important to us. Please work with us to provide you with timely information should an emergency arise.
If you have questions, please contact Jere Witherspoon (Student Life) at jwitherspoon@georgefox.edu.
Sincerely,
Brad Lau, VP of Student Life

Snow and icy conditions are in the forecast for this week. We caution you to walk carefully on icy sidewalks and to avoid walking beneath trees whose branches may fall due to snow.
In case of a weather-related campus closure, we want to make sure you have the information you need.
Weather Closure Policy
On rare occasions, classes may need to be canceled and offices closed due to adverse weather conditions or for other emergency reasons.
The provost decides if conditions warrant canceling classes or closing offices for the Newberg campus and the Portland and Salem centers. (Closure decisions in Boise and Redmond are made by local administrators.)
Major considerations are road conditions, ice, utility service disruption, and how long the severe weather or emergency is likely to last. Decisions on day classes are announced by 6:15 a.m., if possible. Most decisions on evening classes are posted by 2:15 p.m..
In no circumstances should employees or students put themselves in danger in an attempt to get to campus.
To find out if a closure decision has been made when bad weather occurs:
* Listen to local radio and television stations
* Call Newsline, the university’s recorded announcements, at 503-554-3868
* Call the George Fox switchboard at 503-538-8383
* Check television and newspaper Web sites:

Students-if you have changed residences over the break from one side of the campus to the other, or on/off campus, you will need a new parking permit. Also, if you are bringing another car to campus other than what you registered in the fall, that will necessitate a new parking permit as well. Please scrape off your previous permit and bring it to the Security office during office hours so we can change your vehicle/permit registration.
If you were registered as NOCAR last semester, but will have a vehicle this semester, you will need to go on myGFU and DELETE your NOCAR registration, and then input your vehicle information. A permit will then be assigned to you and sent to the main Post Office where you will need to sign for it.
Every student is required to either register their vehicle, or register as NOCAR by the add/drop date, so please don’t delay! You will be issued and charged for a parking permit if you have not done this by Friday, January 21.

If you are from Oregon and have been a recipient in the past of the Oregon Opportunity Grant (OOG) or believe you may qualify for it in 2011-12, it is more important than ever to FILE THE FAFSA EARLY. Â Due to shortfalls with state funding, it is expected that the OOG will run out even sooner than it did in 2010-11. The only way to secure the potential of this award is to file within the first week or two of January, 2011. Estimating your income is expected and encouraged in order to file early. Â We in Student Financial Services would like to help you secure as much funding as you possibly can so please gather up your information and head towww.fafsa.gov soon after the first of the year.
