Viv Grigg has been used to prophetically initiate many urban ministries while following Christ by living in numerous poor communities around the world. He is an assistant professor and author of numerous articles and books.

Join us for the third of four peace and justice symposia this academic year. Fred Gregory will take us on a journey through his 40-plus years in international development. Hear his amazing stories, learn from his experience, and be inspired by his courage and insight. Dot Tobey will share her experience working in inner city youth ministry. Hear from a recent college graduate serving God through youth ministry.

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S-AAC) will be doing a coin drive for the flooding in Pakistan that the country is still attempting to recover from.

Collectors will be going to dorms, houses, and everything in between from 7 to 9 p.m. on this Thursday, February 3.

Staff and students: With the rising gas prices and recent drier weather, more of you are biking to school. Please remember to always lock your bike with the thickest chain and lock you can buy.

If you have an expensive bike, you might want to consider bringing a less expensive bike to campus, or to store your bike elsewhere, as it is very tempting to thieves. We have had a few reports lately of stolen bikes, so please check on your bike frequently and keep it locked!

The security department also offers free bike registration at the security office. Just bring your bike over during office hours (7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday) and we can register your bike with the Newberg Police Department.

Freaking out because you don’t know APA style for citations? If so, we have a workshop just for you: “Using APA Format Effectively,” scheduled for 10:40 a.m. this Friday, Feb. 4, in Lemmons 8.

Sue O’Donnell, associate professor of psychology, will cover American Psychological Association citation and reference formatting, along with several guidelines for writing in APA style.

Both graduate and undergraduate Financial Aid Counselors will be away from the office Wednesday, February 2nd through Friday February 4th. If an appointment is needed, please email your counselor to set up a time next week.  For immediate assistance, please call our office at 503-554-2300.

The all-new Bruin Madness is this Saturday, and we want you there!

The Bon opens early at 3:30 p.m. for our first-ever indoor tailgate party. Don’t miss the incredible tailgate dinner and spirit activities. There is also a special KidZone for the little ones so bring your family along too! Students on meal plans just need their ID card to get in.

After the tailgate party, head over to Miller Gym to cheer on the Bruin basketball teams in the biggest games of the year!

Tomorrow (Feb. 2) is the last day to preregister and save on tickets to the indoor tailgate party and basketball games for adults, seniors and non-GFU students.

Those with intermediate-advance level dance experience are invited to audition to be a member of the George Fox Dance Company.

Auditions are Sunday, Feb. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Wheeler Dance Room 211 of the gym. Please be prepared for an intermediate-advance level jazz/lyrical dance class.

Don’t forget that Doubt, the theatre’s winter drama, opens this week in Wood-Mar Auditorium. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 3-5, and Sunday at 2 p.m. It also runs next week, Feb. 10-12, at 7:30 p.m.

Students get in free both Thursdays, and one complimentary ticket is available for each employee in the bookstore.

Auditions start at 9 a.m. , Saturday, February 5th.

On Tuesday night (Feb. 1) spiritual life will host “Doubter’s Forum – a Conversation About Life’s Hard Questions.” It will be held in Hoover lounge at 7:30 p.m. On the panel will be Steve Sherwood and Sarah Baldwin. We look forward to seeing you there!

The Academic Resource Center is offering the opportunity to be in a writing group this semester for all those interested. An ARC consultant will organize and facilitate weekly meetings with a consistent group of writers who wish to share their writing and receive feedback from others. Students may bring assigned or independent work.

Groups will be meeting Monday through Thursday. If you are interested, please contact Jay Miller (millerj06@georgefox.edu) as soon as possible.

Is one of your parents or grandparents an alumnus of George Fox?

If so, and you will be a traditional undergraduate student for the 2011-12 academic year, you may be qualified to apply for the George Fox Alumni Association Scholarship Program. Each year, the George Fox Alumni Association awards 16 scholarships to current students who are direct descendants (children or grandchildren) of George Fox alumni. In total, the GFU Alumni Association will award $17,000 to students for the 2011-12 academic year.

University Relations is taking part in a prom dress donation drive for high school students in the Alaskan village of Savoonga, which will host its first-ever prom night on May 7. Please consider donating your used prom or formal dresses to the Savoonga village girls by Monday, Feb. 15.

Dresses can be dropped off at the Office of University Relations in the Pennington House (1000 Sheridan St.) or at the ASC offices. We will take responsibility to ship them to the village, located on St. Lawrence Island just below Siberia in the middle of the Bering Sea.

We are also looking for men’s suit jackets and jewelry.

Don’t forget to turn in your January timesheets to your supervisor at the end of your last shift of the month. The last day of the month is Monday, January 31. Be sure your name is typed or printed legibly at the top, it is complete and accurate, and you have signed it. Payday is on Tuesday, February 15.

Wondering about your 1098T Tuition Statement? Students who elect to “grant consent” to have their form available online can now access it by logging into MyGFU. Next, go to the student center and scroll down to finances section and choose the drop down pick list “other financial.”

Next, choose the 1098T and select 2010. Students who do not wish to grant consent can expect the form to be mailed Monday, Jan. 31. We are very sorry that we do not have the printed version ready yet.

This semester at George Fox University, the business department has added a valuable new resource for all business students. The Business Lab is lead by two tutors at every session twice a week to meet the needs of struggling students with business majors. Additional study sessions will be announced to accommodate for class exams and possibly large projects. Students are invited to come and receive aid with homework, assignments, and group projects. Recommended to students in the following courses: ACCT 271, ACCT 272, BUSN 240, FINC 260, ECON 201, ECON 202

Business labs on Mondays and Tuesdays nights located in Hoover 209* Exam Sessions will be announced as needed.
