Fall 2011 housing selection will be online in MyGFU beginning on March 14^th. Now is the time to be thinking about two things:

1)     Who you want to live with. Group sizes can range from 2-6 people. http://www.georgefox.edu/offices/student_life/residence/HowtoChooseaRoommate.html

2)     Where you want to live. The size of your group will determine what options are available. http://www.georgefox.edu/offices/student_life/residence/HousingSelectionOptions.html

Additionally, you will want to make sure you have your housing deposit in by 5:00 p.m. on March 11^th.  You may pay your deposit at Student Financial Services.

Details of how the housing process works in MyGFU will be available next week. If you have questions about the selection process, please stop by the Student Life Office or e-mail housing@georgefox.edu.

Staff and students: The lost and found cupboards are stuffed to the brim with “found” items! Please come to the security house to look for your lost items before Thursday, March 10, as all remaining items will be donated to the May Serve garage sale (March 12) on that date.

Bauman Auditorium will be the venue for a free performance by the Portland Youth Philharmonic, led by Conductor David Hattner, at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 28.

The concert program includes Brahms’ Tragic Overture, Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme and Stravinsky’s Petrushka. Spotlighted will be cellist Jinn Shin, a concerto competition winner.

No tickets are required. It is a free preview of PYP’s annual Winter Concert to be held in the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall on March 5 at 7:30 p.m.

Come to chapel this Wednesday (March 2) to hear from Stephen Newby, Seattle Pacific University’s director of university ministries and center for worship. Newby is a worship leader, songwriter and composer well known for his role with Promise Keepers.

George Fox’s gospel choir, along with the SPU gospel choir, will join together in leading our campus into worship during the chapel hour (10:40 to 11:30 a.m.) You won’t want to miss it!

You can pay your 2011-2012 housing deposit in Student Financial Services, on the first floor of Stevens.

Tickets are on sale now in the Career Center, Stevens first floor for our annual etiquette dinner on March 2 in the Cap and Gown Room.  You will learn etiquette for the professional through networking, dining and dress for success experiences.  A certified etiquette consultant will be the featured guest speaker with alumni and other professionals acting as table hosts. Sign up in BruinCareers on MyGFU, pay online and pick up your ticket at the event or purchase your ticket in the career office.  Ticket prices are $10 on the meal plan and $14 off the meal plan-a real value!

Applications to become a Spiritual Life chaplain for the 2011-2012 school year are now available in the SUB. An SLC works one-on-one with Spiritual Life assistants in a particular living area as well as with Rusty St. Cyr (Director of Spiritual Formation). The SLC position is paid also!

Due to the weather situation, there have been a number of changes to the Bruin sports schedules for the rest of the weekend. Here is the schedule as of 10:45 a.m. Thursday morning:

Thursday, Feb. 24, 7 p.m. – Women’s basketball vs. Puget Sound, Wheeler Sports Center/Miller Gym (NWC Tournament)
Friday, Feb. 25, noon – Women’s tennis vs. Pacific Lutheran, Tualatin Hills Tennis Center, Beaverton, Ore.
Saturday, Feb. 26, 10:30 a.m. – Men’s and women’s track and field in Frank Haskins Quad Duel, Colcord Field
Saturday, Feb. 26, 7 p.m. – Women’s basketball vs. TBA (tentative)

Friday’s women’s tennis match was originally scheduled for 3:30 at the GFU campus courts but has been moved. The women’s tennis team was also supposed to host Linfield on Saturday, but the Linfield series has been swapped; the Bruins will go to Linfield this Saturday (since they have indoor courts), and the Wildcats will now come to George Fox on March 26.

If the women’s basketball team wins its Thursday game in the NWC Tournament, the location of Saturday’s championship game will be determined by the other semifinal game, Whitman at Lewis & Clark. If Whitman wins, George Fox will host on Saturday; if Lewis & Clark wins, the Saturday game will be in Portland.

George Fox’s baseball games this weekend (three games against various opponents at the University of Portland) and the softball games at PLU and UPS are still pending.

To see the May Term 2011 class offerings go to class.georgefox.edu. For “Term” select “Summer 2011”; for “Class Level” select “Traditional Undergraduate”; for “Discipline” you can either choose one or leave the default of “All.”

May Term classes have a section code of “MAY.” Our eight-week summer online classes are also available via the same navigation and have a section code of “ONL.” Registration for both is open now and must be completed by April 15.

This Saturday we will be welcoming more than 350 visitors on campus as they attend this year’s Kaleo conference. In addition to our regular students, we  also will be serving our guests lunch in our main dining room.

In order to help minimize entrance lines, we’d like to ask all our George Fox students to enter through the dishroom doors, with overflow seating available in the Cap and Gown rooms.

Peer Advisor application deadline extended to Monday, February 28th! Be  a part!  It’s not too late!  Peer Advisors lead new students during orientation and help with the First Year Seminar class.

Find the application on the Fox website- search “Student Leader Application.”  Two references are required.  PA’s are paid monthly over the first semester.
