Newberg’s Own Professional Theatre – Valley Repertory Theatre

A brand-new local company, Valley Repertory Theatre, founded by George Fox University alumni Stephen Pick and Caleb Thurston, will begin a full season of theatrical performances in Newberg starting in September 2011.

Valley Repertory Theatre’s inaugural season will feature four plays ranging from original work to contemporary drama to classic comedy. Guided by the theme “Walk a Mile,” each play offers the people of Newberg an opportunity to better understand their neighbors and to tread the globe for a few moments in someone else’s shoes.

Auditions for Walk a Mile: Stories of Newberg and A Christmas Carol will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, at C.S. Lewis Academy Performing Arts Complex at 609 Wynooski St., Newberg. Actors ages 15 and older of all backgrounds and experience levels are encouraged to audition, and all positions will be on a volunteer basis for this inaugural season. To sign up or for more information, contact Stephen Pick at stephenpick@valleyrep.org.

As part of the development of Walk a Mile: Stories of Newberg, VRT will be interviewing several local people of diverse cultures and ages. Those with stories to share are encouraged to call the theatre at 971-832-9202 or visit the company’s website, valleyrep.org, to access the downloadable application form. Applications should be mailed to VRT at P.O. Box 3242 Newberg, OR 97132 before May 23, 2011.

A season kick-off dessert is also planned for Sunday, June 12, at 6 p.m. at the Chehalem Cultural Center.
