The university will serve as host for a preview of the Portland Youth Philharmonic’s annual fall concert at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Bauman Auditorium.
The program, led by conductor and music director David Hattner, includes Richard Wagner’s Suite from Act III of Die Meistersinger, Dvorak’s Symphony No. 3 in E-flat Major, and the West Coast premiere of Jim Stephenson’s clarinet concerto Liquid Melancholy with David Shifrin, clarinetist and music director of Chamber Music Northwest.
The event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required. For more information, call 503-223-5939. This concert is a preview of PYP’s annual fall concert to be held in the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m.

We still have some discounted tickets left for The Nutcracker performance on Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Keller Auditorium. Tickets are in the middle three sections of the first balcony and they cost $58 each (this is more than 40 percent off the retail price of $102.70)!

Bring your change to Faith & Film tonight (Tuesday)! There will be a group of students selling concessions before the film as a fundraiser for Urbana, a missions conference in St. Louis that they will be attending.
Concessions will be sold from 8:30 to 9:15 p.m. At 9 p.m., we will watch The Music Within in the Cap and Gown Room. Chapel credit is available.

Sign and submit your October time sheet to your supervisor.
The last day of October is Wednesday, Oct. 31. Please turn in your October time sheets to your supervisor at the end of your last shift of the month. Be sure your name and ID number is typed or printed legibly at the top, it is complete and accurate, and you have signed it.
Payday is on Thursday, Nov. 15. If you forget to turn in your time sheet on time, you may not get paid on the 15th.

Registration for Professional Preview Day begins Friday, Nov. 2! If you would like help registering or selecting a professional for Professional Preview Day, a career services representative will be available in the Bruin Den on Fridays from 12:30-2 p.m. to help you.
You can also stop by the Career Services office on the first floor of Stevens for assistance during normal business hours. All are welcome!

The campus community is invited to a public lecture to be presented tonight (Tuesday) by Dr. Mathias Zahniser, a scholar in residence at Greenville College and an expert on the relationship between Islam and Christianity. He will present “Islam and Democracy: Faith Sees Positively and Thinks Hopefully” from 7 to 9 p.m. in Hoover 105.
In addition, Zahniser will speak in chapel on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 10:40 a.m. in Bauman Auditorium on the topic “Was Cornelius a Muslim? Faith Sees Inclusively, Knowing God Works Consistently.” That will be followed by a talk-back session in the Cap and Gown Room at noon.
Zahniser wrote the book The Mission and Death of Jesus in Islam and Christianity and is currently working on a chapter for a book edited by David Emmanuel Singh on issues related to the Incarnation in the context of Christian-Muslim faith sharing.
