Ushers needed for spring play ‘Enchanted April’

I’m house manager for the theatre department’s production of Enchanted April, and I’m looking for some ushers!

If you come help out with the show, you get to see the show for free in return! After duties are done, you just chill and watch the show, or if you’re posted on door duty I’ll give you a ticket for you to come back on another showtime.

Performances are:

  • Thursday, April 11 (7:30 p.m.)
  • Friday, April 12 (7:30 p.m.)
  • Saturday, April 13 (7:30 p.m.)
  • Sunday, April 14 (2 p.m.)
  • Thursday, April 18 (7:30 p.m.)

Arrival times for ushers will be about one and a half hours before showtime (or less). So I would need you to arrive at 6 p.m. on evening shows and 12:30 p.m. for matinees.

Bruin Preview – Help Needed!

This Thursday we have a large group of prospective students here for our Bruin Preview event and we are still in need of some hosts for those students staying overnight.

If you are interested in helping a student in their college decision process by hosting them for the night, please get in touch with the Admissions Office asap!  Hosts will be required to attend a 4 p.m. meeting in Hoover 105 on Thursday, April 4 in order to meet their students. Snacks will be provided!

Spring Chamber Concert scheduled in Bauman Auditorium Thursday

The event will include performances by our Keyboard Ensemble (“Venetian Boat Song,” “Rondo”), Women’s Chorale (“Tundra,” Cantate Domino”), String Ensemble (“Last Spring, Op. 34,” “Simple Symphony, Op. 4”), Chamber Singers (“Alleluia,” “Exultate Deo,” “Stand by Me”), String Quartet (“String Quartet No. 12, Op. 96 in F Major”) and Handbell Ringers (“The Bells of Notre Dame,” “Under the Sea”).

Survivor Van

Bruin Heritage is getting ready for Survivor Van and want you to be a part!

  • When: Thursday, April 11
  • Where: On the quad
  • What: Students sign up to be entered in a drawing to compete in the event. The ten students that are drawn will be the contestants. During their time in the van, contestants will complete various challenges for prizes. The last person remaining in the van will receive a cash prize.

Come and show your school spirit by participating or cheering for your class!

Note: Contestants will also need to have two friends that will sign up to complete challenges for the constant outside of the van.

Influential Hispanic leader, Samuel Rodriguez, speaks in chapel

Join us today (Wednesday) in chapel as Rev. Samuel Rodriguez joins us. CNN named Rodriguez “the leader of the Hispanic Evangelical movement,” and The Wall Street Journal identified him as one of America’s most influential Hispanic leaders – and the only religious leader on the list.

An Assemblies of God ordained minister since the age of 23, Rodriguez serves as senior pastor of New Season Christian Worship Center in Sacramento, Calif., where he resides with his wife of 23 years, Eva, and their three children.

Saturday concert in Bruin Grounds benefits students going to Swaziland

The Bruin Grounds is hosting a benefit concert featuring George Fox alumnus Benjamin Tissell on Saturday, April 6, at 8 p.m. Proceeds will support Ameena Bossier and Bri Phelps, who are going to serve in Swaziland for two months this summer as interns.

The Bruin Grounds will be donating a percentage of what it makes that night from drink purchases. So come enjoy some great music and purchase coffee, milkshakes, smoothies, etc., and support your fellow classmates. Invite your friends!

Workshops cover how to plan, design and build a rain garden

Do you want to learn how to build rain gardens to improve streams in your community? In a series of upcoming workshops, you will locate, design and construct a rain garden on the George Fox University campus at Newberg.

Plan & Design a Rain Garden: April 3, 5:30-9 p.m.

Design a rain garden based on native soil and the surrounding infrastructure. Breakout groups will visit the project site and work together for the design.

Build a Rain Garden: April 20, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Build a rain garden from a final design. We’ll finish construction, amend soil, plant the rain garden, and discuss maintenance. Shovels and gloves will be provided. Dress appropriately for the weather.
