Be considerate of Genesis guests when parking

Our new students and their families will be on campus this Friday, July 12 to attend Genesis. Please help to warmly welcome our guests by giving up your parking places in the Stevens, Hoover and Wood-Mar parking lots. Parking is available in the Pennington lot, on the campus side of Meridian Street, Sherman and North streets, and the Bauman lot (limited due to construction).

Please also tell your summer work-study students to avoid parking in those lots on Friday.

Important housing dates for 2013-14

Monday, July 8th, 2013
  • Returning students may move into campus housing for Fall Semester 2013 beginning at 8:00 AM on Saturday, August 31. 
  • Residence Halls and Suites will be closed for Christmas break (December 21, 2013 at noon through January 12, 2014 at noon) and Spring break (March 22, 2014 at noon through March 30, 2014 at noon).
  • Residence Halls open for Spring Semester on January 12 at noon.
  • Campus housing closes for the academic year at noon on May 3, 2014.

Reminder: BlueZone Store Textbook Annex has relocated

Just a reminder: The location of the BlueZone Store Textbook Annex has changed over the summer. The new textbook annex is located at 1109 E. Hancock St., in Newberg.

The best way to get your textbooks is by logging on to our website at gfubookstore.com and ordering them online. Have them shipped directly to your home. It’s always free shipping.

Mail and Print Services closing early this afternoon

Wheeler Sports Center closed July 4-7

This is a reminder that the Wheeler Sports Center will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, and remain closed until Monday, July 8, at 6 a.m.

Due to the upcoming holiday, both the Bruin Den and Villa Café will be closed this Thursday and Friday, July 4-5. The Villa Café also will be closed on Wednesday, July 3.

Mail and print services close early on Friday

Mail and Print Services will close at noon on Friday, June 28, for year-end inventory and relocation of equipment. Please have your outgoing mail items and outgoing UPS items in by 11:30 a.m. Please submit any print jobs by 11 a.m.

Reminder: We will be relocated temporarily in Lemmons 12 and 13 on Monday through Wednesday next week, July 1-3.

Thank you for your assistance in getting jobs in early so that we can service you in a timely manner during our move.

Join student life office in prayer for Jere Witherspoon today

After years of praying and preparation, Jere Witherspoon (Student Life) is having knee replacement surgery on Monday, June 24. Before she has this procedure, we want to pray for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery. Please join us today (Friday) in the student life office from 11:30 a.m. to noon to wish Jere well and say a word of prayer.

Even if you can’t make it to this gathering, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers during this procedure and recovery.

Bon Appetit giving away free ice cream today

One of our ice cream freezers died last week and 1,500 ice cream novelties thawed. We refroze them and they may not look good, but they taste great!

Summer core fitness classes offered in Minthorn Hall

Summer core fitness classes are now being offered in Minthorn Hall from 8 to 9 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday mornings. There is no fee to participate.

We will not have class on the following dates:

  • Thursday, July 4
  • Tuesday, July 30
  • Thursday, Aug. 1

We want to thank everyone on campus for their support these past few days as we’ve worked hard jointly with Event Services and Custodial Services and many others to take good care of our Old German Baptist Brethren summer conference attendees.

As a thank you, we will have free coffee and cookies for everyone on campus today (Wednesday) from 8 to 11 a.m. in the Bruin Den.

To a person, these attendees have fallen in love with our campus and have expressed a strong desire to possibly return in future years. Way to go Fox!

Mail and print services temporarily relocating July 1-3

University Mail and Print Services will be temporarily relocating into Calder 12 and 13 for three days, July 1-3. The power to the North Street Annex will be turned off during that time. Limited services as follows:

Mail Services

  • Incoming mail and packages received in Calder 12
  • Mail and package pick-up in Calder 12 (no access to current mailboxes in the North Street Annex)
  • Limited outgoing U.S. Mail Services
  • No outgoing UPS, FEDEX, etc.
  • No outgoing packages over 25 pounds
  • No outgoing bulk discounted mailings
  • No address list processing
  • Courier to Portland all three days (items to be in Mail Services by 9:45 a.m.)

Print Services

  • Color and black/white printing available
  • Limited production ability – no large quantity jobs
  • No envelope addressing

Please plan your print and mail items accordingly. Bring any large quantity or detailed jobs into Print Services and Mail Services the week of June 24. Be aware that our turnaround time may be longer due to limited access to our equipment and supplies at our temporary location. We are here to serve and we will do our best to accommodate your requests during this time.

All students invited to join in reading ‘Tattoos on the Heart’ this summer

This fall marks the third year that all incoming first-year students will been given a “Common Reading” as part of the First Year Seminar program. The campus community is invited to join our incoming students in reading Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion by Gregory Boyle.

Consider adding the book to your summer reading list, and keep your eyes open for more information about Common Reading events during the fall semester. If you need more motivation, check out this short LA Times article about the book.

Receive in your e-mail updates, hints and tips relevant to George Fox University-supported software, including Microsoft Office, Windows 7, Google Apps, Keynote and PowerPoint, Apple OS, iOS features and more related to George Fox systems.

Reminder: Summer Serve team in need of donations for at-risk children

This is a reminder that our Summer Serve team is collecting the following items to take to Romania and Moldova for at-risk and orphaned children. Here is a list of items needed. We’d so much love your help gathering them. We need these items by Friday, June 14, at noon.

If you are able to provide any of the below items please drop them by the Spiritual Life House (located on the corner of Sheridan and Meridian) between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Bruin Den, Villa Cafe closed during large church conference

As many of you know, the university will be hosting more than 1,300 members of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church for its annual conference beginning this Friday, June 14, through next Tuesday, June 18.

Because of the size and complexity of this conference, both the Bruin Den and the Villa Cafe will be closed the following days and times:

Villa Cafe: Closed June 14-21
