Financial Aid Opportunity for Oregon Students

Thursday, January 9th, 2014

Oregon students have two opportunities for additional financial aid for the 2014-15 academic year. If you plan to attend at least half time next Fall in an undergraduate program, please continue reading!

It’s time to start working on your OSAC scholarship application. Go to: www.OregonStudentAid.gov and apply online for any of the more of than 450 scholarship programs that OSAC administers. This scholarship opportunity closes on March 1st.

OSAC also administers the Oregon Opportunity Grant (OOG) for undergraduates. Please be aware that these funds are given based on the income of the student and parents as well as THE DATE OF YOUR FIRST FAFSA FILING. Please be sure to file your 2014-15 FAFSA no later than January 31st. In the past few years, OSAC has had to cut off funds to students that file in February or later even though they may have otherwise qualified. Please file your FAFSA now if you have not already. It is fine to estimate income number on the first FAFSA. Once you have completed your 2013 taxes, you can update the FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool. Don’t miss out on funding by filing too late.

Parking Permit Information

Thursday, January 9th, 2014

ALL vehicles brought to campus need to have some sort of permit on them.

If you are temporarily borrowing a vehicle to return to campus, please come to the security office for a gratis temporary permit.

These permits are available 24/7. If it is after office hours, just call 503-554-2090 to speak to the officer on duty to arrange a time to come and get one.

If you changed cars over break, please come to the security office so we can get your new car registered and the former car taken off the database.

If you didn’t have a car fall semester, but are bringing one back for spring, please go on MyGFU and DELETE your “NOCAR” registration by using the minus button to the right of the listing. After the boxes clear, then you can input your vehicle information, and a parking permit will be issued to you and sent over to Mail Services. If you do this by noon today (Friday, Jan. 10), your permit will be awaiting you at Mail Services when you return to school.

Questions? Please contact Nadine Kincaid at nkincaid@georgefox.edu or call 503-554-2090.

For more information, please check out Parking 101 on the Security Services website.

Renovations in SUB will enhance dining experience

Monday, January 6th, 2014

The Bruin Den area in the SUB will have a different look when undergraduate classes resume next week. Crews are currently renovating the space to increase the eating area for students and staff and to improve the pace of service in the Bruin Den.

The water feature is being removed to allow for more space for seating, and the Executive Dining Room is being converted to a “grab and go” venue. The goal is to take some pressure off of the Bruin Den and eliminate long lines. This new area will have pre-made sandwiches, salads, beverage coolers, etc., and a cashier.

The university is also looking to turn Cap & Gown A into seating space for students and staff when it is not needed for larger group meetings.
