Hawaiian luau dinner scheduled in Klages on April 14

The Hawaiian Club is putting on its annual Hawaiian luau dinner in the Klages Dining Room on Wednesday, April 14, between 4:30 and 7 p.m. Come for a fun-filled evening with friends, food and live music. If you are not on the meal plan, it costs $10; however, the first 20 people who come get in for free.

This is your last chance to pick up DVDs featuring pianist Valentina Lisitsa, this year’s visiting Bösendorfer Artist. Kenn Willson (Performing Arts) has two different DVDs: one shows Valentina performing all 24 Chopin Etudes and the other is entitled “Black and Pink,” on which she performs Liszt, Ravel, Chopin and Rachmaninoff.

Theatre presents ‘Eurydice’ on Wood-Mar stage

The theatre’s spring production of Eurydice opens this week in Wood-Mar Auditorium, with shows scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, April 8-10. Additional performances are scheduled April 15-17 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 18, at 2 p.m.

Written by Sarah Ruhl and directed by Megan Weaver, Eurydice is a fantastical retelling of the myth of Orpheus. University employees receive one complimentary ticket, and students will be admitted free on both Thursdays. Your complimentary ticket is only available at the Box Office in the Bruin Bookstore. Additional tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for alumni and seniors, and $6 for students and children under 12. Tickets may be purchased at theatre.georgefox.edu.

Haiti benefit concert plays in Bauman Auditorium Thursday

Tuesday is final day to register for career and grad fair online

Tuesday is the last day to sign up online for the First Avenue Career and Graduate School Fair, scheduled Wednesday, April 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the University of Portland’s Chiles Center. Advance online registration closes at 4 p.m. and is only $5 at olapcfirstavenue.org; otherwise, tickets are $10 at the door.

Interested in networking? Attend between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to interact with more than 40 professionals in a variety of industries. You can view their profiles online.

Barram speaks at auxiliary lunch April 16

Dirk Barram (School of Business) will speak at a George Fox Auxiliary luncheon at noon Friday, April 16, in the Cap and Gown Room. Reservations are required and tickets are $7.50 per person.

Republican candidates visit campus for forum this Friday

The university’s College Republicans and the Yamhill County Republicans will host a Republican forum, featuring 14 of the state’s Republican candidates, in Hoover 105 beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 9. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Candidates will give 10-minute speeches and also answer one question from the audience and one question posed by the Yamhill County Republican Central Committee that was received via e-mail prior to the event. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with opening comments beginning at 7 p.m.

Speakers scheduled to appear include Oregon governor candidates Allen Alley, Ames Curtright and John Lim; U.S. Senate candidate Jim Huffman; State Senate candidate Larry George; Congressional District #1 candidates Rob Cornilles, Doug Keller and John Kuzmanich; State Representative candidates Doug Heuer, Kim Thatcher, Jim Thompson and Jim Weidner; and Yamhill Country Commissioner candidates Kathy George and Mary Starrett.

Walking club steps up the pace with spring events

Beginning Tuesday, April 13, join us at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the university’s track for an early-morning walk or jog. It’s a great way to start spring!

Spring play ‘Eurydice’ opens this week in Wood-Mar Auditorium

The theatre’s spring production of Eurydice opens this week in Wood-Mar Auditorium, with shows scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, April 8-10. Additional performances are scheduled April 15-17 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 18, at 2 p.m.

Written by Sarah Ruhl and directed by Megan Weaver, Eurydice is a fantastical retelling of the myth of Orpheus. The play follows the story of Orpheus’ lover as she falls in love, only to die on her wedding day. A visually dynamic and inventive story, Ruhl’s world features raining elevators, a room made of string, talking stones and letters sent through the earth via worms.

Support Empty Bowls for Haiti night on April 16

Come join students, faculty and guests from around the community on Friday, April 16, as we raise funds for and celebrate the beauty of Haiti at Empty Bowls: A Night for Haiti. The event is scheduled from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Klages Dining Room.

For $12, you will receive a soup dinner in a hand-crafted ceramic bowl made by a student, staff member or guest artist. Please R.S.V.P. at georgefox.edu/haiti. All proceeds will go toward relief and rebuilding in Haiti.

Bible reading scheduled in quad this week

Judges needed for liberal arts and critical issues exhibits

On Monday, April 12, between 12:30 and 4 p.m., 38 Liberal Arts and Critical Issues senior exhibits will be presented in Hoover and EHS. We are looking for judges to help us evaluate the exhibits. Each judge will have five tables to judge.

Evaluation rubrics will be provided along with a small gift. This will require about an hour to complete. We appreciate having both staff, faculty and administrators as judges. Tilikum’s 10K run, 5K walk/run returns on April 10

Tilikum Center for Retreats and Outdoor Ministries will host its eight annual “Go the Distance” 10K run and 5K walk/run at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, at Champoeg State Park in St. Paul. Funds raised will help under-resourced children and youth go to summer camp.

Participants raise money by securing financial sponsors who pledge a donation per kilometer the participant runs. There is also the option of a 5K walk/run for adults and younger children. The entry fee or minimum donation is $35 for adults and $5 for children under 12.
