Consider supporting students through faculty/staff giving campaign

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

This is a reminder that it’s time again for the faculty/staff campaign! Gifts from faculty/staff members make it possible for students to receive tremendous opportunities for spiritual formation, vocational development and character growth.

On Nov. 1, an e-mail was sent highlighting videos and students’ testimonies of how these types of opportunities at George Fox deepen their relationship with God and prepare them to transform culture.

Many thanks to those who have already responded!

For an easy way to give via payroll deduction, please follow this link.

Thank you so much the difference you make in students’ lives.

Plight of North Koreans spotlighted on campus Nov. 17

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

The university is bringing attention to the plight of those in North Korea, hosting a group from the organization “LiNK” (Liberty in North Korea) for a screening of the documentary film Hiding on Thursday, Nov. 17.

The screening, sponsored by the Center for Peace and Justice, will be shown from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Hoover 105.

Hiding tells the story of how, in the mid-1990s, more than 1 million people died in North Korea – and hardly anyone noticed. Millions starved, hundreds of thousands were imprisoned in concentration camps, and tens of thousands crossed borders seeking food, money, protection and even freedom that they never knew existed. North Korea was, and continues to be, a land with virtually no freedoms – of speech, assembly, religion or movement.

LiNK was organized out of a desire to spread awareness of the atrocities occurring in North Korea. The organization’s official line is “redefining the North Korea crisis through creative storytelling, while providing emergency relief to North Korean refugees and pursuing an end to the human rights crisis.”

Join us to see the film and hear LiNK “nomads” share their experiences.

Questions? Contact Melanie Newell at mnewell@georgefox.edu of ext. 2686.
