The women’s basketball team will host the University of Puget Sound at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, in one of two semifinal games in the Northwest Conference Tournament. George Fox is the No. 1 seed in the tournament while Puget Sound is the No. 4 seed.
In the other semifinal contest, No. 2 seed Lewis & Clark College will host No. 3 seed Whitman College, also Thursday at 7 p.m. The championship game will be Saturday at 7 p.m. at the site of the highest-remaining seed, with the winner earning the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA National Tournament.
Ticket Info: Ticket prices for all NWC Tournament games in Miller Gymnasium will be $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and up and seniors 55 and over. All adults must purchase a ticket; school passes are not valid for the conference tournament.
Children 6 and under who are not in school are free, as are students from the participating schools with a valid student ID. Tickets for the tournament will be sold at the door; advance tickets are not available.

“Discover Your True North in Family, Business and Life” is the topic Portland-area business and ministry consultant Ron Frey will address when he speaks at the Tuesday, Feb. 28, Newberg meeting for the Christian Chamber of Commerce of the Northwest. The meeting is from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the Villa Academic Complex.
A Portland native, Frey is founder and president of Frey Consulting Group, advising clients in management, marketing and fundraising. His career has included leadership in some of America’s largest international faith-based organizations along with consulting a wide variety of ministry organizations from domestic and foreign missions, youth organizations, camps, and international relief and development organizations.
Frey will speak about discovering “True North” — finding one’s life purpose and mission in order to bring clarity and focus to all of life’s major decisions.

Steve Delamarter, professor of Old Testament at George Fox Evangelical Seminary, will speak at a George Fox Auxiliary luncheon at noon Friday, March 2, in the Cap and Gown Room on the Newberg campus. Reservations are required and tickets are $8 per person.

Delamarter specializes in the digitization and cataloguing of Ethiopian manuscripts, the Dead Sea Scrolls and the scribal practices of sacred texts. He has made several trips to Ethiopia for his research. You can learn more about Steve here.

The university’s Department of Biology and Chemistry invites you to join us for our second annual Dalton Lecture Series event, “God of Antimatter,” featuring Dr. Gerald Gabrielse, Harvard’s Leverett Professor of Physics, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20.
Dr. Gabrielse has won Harvard’s Levenson Prize for exceptional teaching and the Ledlie Prize for exceptional research. He is currently the chair of the Division of Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics of the American Physical Society.
Dr. Gabrielse will address questions such as “What role does faith have in a scientist’s life?†and “Is there more to our world than science can say?â€

The university community is invited to a full evening of activities and celebrations when the men’s and women’s basketball teams host their final regular-season home games against county rival Linfield this Friday, Feb. 17, in Miller Gymnasium.
Among the various events planned around the games will be a celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day; an introduction of all senior women student-athletes, student athletic trainers and cheerleaders; “Pink Zone†activities for breast cancer awareness and research; the recognition of George Fox’s 2010-11 Northwest Conference team championships; and pregame ceremonies to acknowledge the careers of the basketball teams’ graduating seniors.
The women’s game tips off at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m. The women are currently 23-0 overall, ranked No. 3 in the nation, and have clinched a share of their sixth straight Northwest Conference crown and home-court advantage for all NWC Tournament games. The George Fox men are 11-12 overall but fourth in the conference at 8-6 and fighting for one of the four playoff spots in the NWC Tournament.
