Important Midterm Grade Information

Thursday, October 22nd, 2015

Midterm grades are important indicators of how students are doing in their classes. In some cases, midterm grades represent about half of a student’s grade in the course. The grades are meant to encourage students to get in touch with professors, advisors, CAP coaches in the IDEA Center and the Academic Resource Center.

We are encouraging students to meet with professors, so please be accommodating. Midterm grades are due by Sunday, Oct. 25. Students are encouraged to check their midterm grades after this date.

Students can check grades in MyGFU by following these steps:

CLICK ON SELF-SERVICE
CLICK ON ENROLLMENT
CLICK ON VIEW MY GRADES
CLICK ON THE CORRECT TERM
CLICK ON THE MID-TERM GRADES TAB

Faculty are not required to enter midterm grades, so students are advised to check with each of their professors about their status in classes. From that, they then consider whether to withdraw from one or more courses if it looks likely that they will get an F (or even a D).

The last date to withdraw is Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015.

Students can sometimes go below being enrolled in 12 credit hours (at this point in the semester) without impacting their financial aid or housing. However, they should contact representatives in these departments to be certain:

Withdrawal results in a “W” on their transcript but does not factor into GPA.
If they were to get an F, it would impact GPA. They should confirm any thoughts of withdrawing from classes with their advisor.

Students should meet with each professor, especially those teaching courses they are struggling in. Even if a professor doesn’t post midterm grades, students should find out from the professor what the grade is.

Students should meet with their advisor to discuss options and use labs, help sessions, and the ARC.

If you know of students who might have a learning disability, encourage them to have some assessment done. They can contact the Health and Counseling Center at 503-554-2340 or stop by their office on South River Street.

Encourage students to plan well for spring semester. They can contact their CAP Coach (Career & Academic Planning Coach) to get advice about spring semester.

Finally, if they have questions, they can email studentlife@georgefox.edu.

No student or staff parking in the neighborhood around Villa Street

Thursday, October 22nd, 2015

Due to an overwhelming number of complaints about students parking in the neighborhood from residents who live on Villa Street and streets east of Villa, we will now be issuing tickets as per the Good Neighbor Policy found in the university’s parking brochure.

Any non-registered students parking in the neighborhoods need to go on MyGFU and register their vehicles and begin parking in the George Fox lots on the east side of campus.

Prayer time in Pavilion happening Sunday night

Thursday, October 22nd, 2015

Have you been wondering what happens to the prayer requests in the Prayer Chapel? Come to Burnt Offerings in the Pavilion on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. as we gather around a fire, worship, and pray over each anonymous request, giving it as an offering to God.

This is a great way to gather in community and pray, worship around a campfire, and enter into the presence of God on behalf of our friends and community here. If the thought of prayer intimidates you, we would encourage you to come and be present in a community of prayer to witness the work God is doing.

We hope to see you there!
