Thursday’s ‘Monster Piano Concert’ promises to entertain
The music of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Poulenc, Brahms, Schubert, Gershwin and Vandall will be featured in the university’s 10th annual Bösendorfer Concert Series at 7:30 p.m. this Thursday, Feb. 4, in Bauman Auditorium. Performing the pieces will be 18 pianists – comprised of current students, George Fox alumni and pupils from music professor Kenn Willson’s private piano studio.
All employees and students are entitled to one free ticket. Additional tickets are $12 for general admission, $8 for seniors and alumni, and $6 for students and children under 12. Among the pieces to be performed at the “Monster Piano Concert” are Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, Beethoven’s March Op. 45 #1, Brahms’ Eight Waltzes Op. 39, Gershwin’s 3 Preludes, Poulenc’s Elegie, Mozart’s Sonata for Two Pianos in D major, K.448, and Schubert’s Military March Op. 51 #1.
The culmination of the evening comes when 12 players simultaneously perform two Robert Vandall pieces on six pianos: Ballad and Jubilation! (Tocatta).
