As we head into Week 14, many students are feeling the pressure of upcoming finals. You can help them transition from passive reviewing to active mastery by sharing research-backed strategies. If you notice students struggling to connect with the material or expressing exam anxiety, consider pointing them toward the “Test Prep Like a Champ” framework.
Key concepts you can share with your students:
- Explain to Retain: Encourage students to move beyond rereading. If they can’t explain a concept to a peer, they haven’t mastered it yet.
- Retrieval over Review: Suggest they swap highlighting for self-testing. Studying shouldn’t stop when they get a question right, but when they can’t get it wrong.
Download this Test Prep Like a Champ Flyer to share with your classes, and direct students to the Academic Resource Center (ARC) for one-on-one academic coaching and writing support.
Contact Heather Harney, assistant director of Learning Support Services, with feedback or questions at hharney@georgefox.edu.

The Office of Academic Affairs is still looking for several volunteers for spring undergraduate commencement on Saturday, May 2, and we are asking for “all-community” participation.

Volunteers are vital to the smooth execution of the day’s events and help make the day memorable for our graduates and their guests. This event is so much fun, and it could not happen without you!
Please sign up for a time to serve in one of the two ceremonies. All who volunteer will receive an additional day of vacation time. If you sign up for both ceremonies, lunch will be provided too.
Thank you in advance for your willingness to serve! Questions? Contact Laurie Fair at lfair@georgefox.edu.
