The undergraduate admissions office is getting ready to welcome hundreds of students this Thursday and Friday, March 15-16,  for our third and final Scholarship Competition. Please be considerate of our guests by avoiding parking in the Hoover and Stevens parking lots on Thursday afternoon (after lunch) and Friday.

Former Wells Fargo VP speaks on campus tomorrow

The importance of being ethical in the business world will be discussed at a special George Fox-hosted lecture presented by Jeff Grubb, a former vice president at Wells Fargo, tomorrow (Thursday). Grubb’s free presentation, “A Christian in the Business World: Ethical Decisions in Challenging Times,” begins at 7 p.m. in Hoover 105.

Grubb has been a trustee at the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust since 2010. He retired from corporate life in 2017 after 35 years in financial services working for Progressive Insurance, U.S. Bank, U.S. Trust and Wells Fargo. He has also served on the advisory board of several private companies.

The lecture is being presented by George Fox’s Office of the President and College of Business. It is the latest installment of the university’s Reiten Lecture Executive in Residence Series.

This is our third annual unique, interdisciplinary presentation. This year’s lecture/recital is entitled “Jazz Dialogues: Storytime and All That Jazz.” It features a lecture and children’s book readings by Beth LaForce, professor of education, assisted by elementary education students, and performances by the university’s Jazz Ensemble, which will play the music of Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk and more.

Portland Writing Center is hiring

The Portland Writing Center is seeking a new writing consultant who is enthusiastic about helping fellow graduate and adult degree students understand the components of effective writing. Portland Writing Center consultants are current degree-completion and graduate students who work four to eight hours per week meeting with students in face-to-face or online sessions at the Portland Writing Center.

Writing consultant duties include helping students with the following: (1) thinking through ideas for a writing assignment; (2) considering writing choices with regard to audience, focus, purpose, cohesion, and organization; (3) developing ideas with specific evidence; (4) improving research strategies; (5) applying proper documentation and formatting; and (6) understanding basic grammar and mechanics.

​The next Wellness Challenge is here! The Wellness Challenge “Spring Part 2” will run from Monday, March 12 through Friday, April 27.

Here are the details:

  • Prizes: There will be a random drawing for a Fitbit, two free staff lunches and water bottles.
  • How drawing entries are earned: One per week participated, one per weekly challenge completed, one per 25 points earned, one per wellness event hosted and posted on the Facebook page. And, “Challenge Part 1” participants get entries for the weeks they participated.

Movie ‘Of Gods and Men’ shows tomorrow night in EHS 102
