Writing is one of the highest-impact learning practices, regardless of discipline. And writing skills make your students more employable. But the key is for them to practice writing as often as possible over the entirety of their college education. You don’t need to be an expert in writing to assign writing in your course and help students.
Sponsored by the Academic Resource Center and the Department of English, a faculty development series, “Integrating Writing in the Classroom,” offers workshops for creating effective writing assignments in any course and training in best practices for responding and grading students’ writing. The series is appropriate both for faculty who want to know basic foundational concepts or are a seasoned teacher looking for new ideas.
Sessions are scheduled on three successive Tuesdays, on Jan. 22, Jan. 29Â and Feb. 5, between 10:50 and 11:50 a.m. in EHS 325.
- Session 1: Designing Writing Assignments that Engage Students as Learners, Thinkers, and Writers
- Session 2: Reading, Commenting On, and Grading Student Writing
- Session 3: Workshop a Writing Assignment for Your Class
Each session satisfies one hour of faculty development credit. Brooks Lampe will be serving as instructor.
Click this link to sign up, and contact Brooks Lampe (blampe@georgefox.edu) or Julia James (jjames@georgefox.edu) with any questions.
