Basketball schedule cards are now available. One is being placed in every faculty, staff, and student mailbox on campus, but if you would like to have extras, contact the sports information office at ext. 2926.

An exhibit featuring the art of Doug Campbell (Visual Arts) will go on display in the Lindgren Gallery beginning Thursday, Nov. 15. The exhibit is titled “Face to Face II” and will run through Jan. 18. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The exhibit will feature portraits and up-close images of people in a form he calls “photo-expressionism.” Campbell takes photographs of people, structures, and landscapes and transfers the image to canvas with an overhead projector. He then paints the images using layers of bright, intense colors.

C.S. Lewis Academy High School’s theater department will present Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None in Wood-Mar Auditorium at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, through Friday, Nov. 16. The cost is $3 at the door with a George Fox ID card.

Mike McConaughey will direct the murder mystery, which is not intended for children under age 10.

George Fox will host a midyear commencement ceremony in the James and Lila Miller Gymnasium-Coleman Wheeler Sports Center on the Newberg campus Saturday, Dec. 15. The commencement will start at 2 p.m., with audience seating at 1 p.m. Tickets are not required. Seating is limited to no more than 10 guests per graduate. Join in a panel discussion, sponsored by the Philosophy Club, to address these questions at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the Hoover Academic Building’s second-floor faculty lounge. Panel speakers will be Phil Smith (Religious Studies), Mark McLeod-Harrison (Religious Studies), Corey Beals (Religious Studies), Frank Canepa, and Kohleun Adamson. Refreshments will be served.

University Mail Services is now offering a courier service to the Salem Center two days a week.  The courier currently services the Portland Center each day Monday through Friday. The Salem Center will be serviced on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please have items at Mail Services by 9:45 a.m. to take advantage of this service. Thank you.

The Chehalem Symphony Orchestra, made up of students and members of the community, will present a musical for children of all ages from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in Bauman Auditorium.

The orchestra will perform Prokokiev’s Peter and the Wolf, Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, and Hadyn’s Symphony 99. There is no admission charge. For more information, contact Debbie Hawblitzel (Performing Arts) at ext. 2620 or dhawblit@georgefox.edu.

The next faculty business meeting is scheduled from 10:40 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in Hoover 105.
Portland and Boise faculty will participate via Polycom.

Holiday luncheons will be served by the students of Family and Consumer Sciences on three upcoming Fridays – Nov. 16, Nov. 30, and Dec. 7. Each luncheon will include a chicken entree with seasonal accompaniments, soup or salad, beverage, and dessert. The cost is $8.

Lunches will be served from noon to 12:30 p.m. in Lemmons Room 4. Contact Helen Morse (Communication Arts) at ext. 2640 between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for reservations and any dietary accommodations.

The Staff Development Committee is hosting a staff lunch at noon Monday, Nov. 12, in the Cap and Gown Room. All staff are welcome to enjoy the food, fun, and fellowship. There will be door prizes, and the cost is $3 per person.

Everyone is welcome to join an inter-faith dialogue Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30pm in EHS 125.  Guest presenters are Shahriar Ahmed, President of the Bilal Mosque in Beaverton and Rabbi Isaak of Congregation Neveh Shalom.

Performing Arts will host a free chamber concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in Bauman Auditorium (not Klages Dining Hall, as previously advertised). The event will feature the following groups: Handbells, Mello Cellos (joint ensemble of George Fox and Linfield), Clarinet Quartet, String Chamber Group, and Early Music Ensemble.

Health and Counseling Services is still offering flu shots. Call ext. 2340 to make an appointment. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Flu shots are free with Pioneer insurance, $1.50 for students with the university’s health insurance, and $15 with any other type of insurance.

The 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, chapel in Bauman Auditorium will begin with a special presentation, coordinated by the Bruin Heritage Society. After a short video highlighting the university’s history, a group of dedicated alumni (from the 1930s through the  1960s) will sing the university’s official song, “Close Beside Chehalem’s Mountain.”

For many years the song, written in 1904 by several students, was taught to incoming students during orientation and sung after every sporting contest. More recently, the song has all but vanished from the campus.

The alumni who are participating are excited to share this piece of George Fox’s history with the current campus community. We hope you are able to attend and are touched by the love they have for their alma mater.

The Newberg Community Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Bauman Auditorium. Also performing will be a special guest: the Portland State University Concert Band. Admission is free.

George Fox University’s Symphonic Band will perform with special guest bands at an invitational band concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in Bauman Auditorium. The Portland State University Wind Ensemble and Pacific Crest Wind Ensemble will be special guests for the event. Admission is free.

All employees are invited to a Wellness Challenge brown-bag lunch at noon Friday, Nov. 9, in Stevens 109. Kathy Weiss (Biology) will speak about the science of nutrition. There is no need to R.S.V.P.

Bruin Preview is scheduled Thursday and Friday, Nov. 8-9. Students can avoid the crowds in the cafeteria by eating before 5:30 p.m. or after 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Also, please avoid parking in the Stevens Center lot on those days so that visitors will have space. Please help welcome prospective students as they visit our campus.
