Dirk Barram (Management) will present “Mid-Course Adjustments: Taking the Risk to Make Necessary Change” at a faculty teaching forum from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the Executive Dining Room.

Sometimes a class doesn’t go as intended. Even with the best of learning objectives, a class may not go as well as anticipated. It may be time to switch gears, even in the middle of the semester. The changes may be minor or maybe major, but whatever degree of change is necessary it is important to acknowledge these and move forward. Barram will discuss how to do this effectively.

Independent U.S. Senate candidate John Frohnmayer will host a town hall at George Fox at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, in Hoover 105. The event is sponsored by the university’s Alpha Alpha Chi chapter of the national political science honor society.

Frohnmayer, who holds a master’s degree in Christian ethics and a law degree, will speak on the role of religion in politics and stewardship of the earth. He also will leave time open for questions from the audience on any topics they choose.

Frohnmayer’s campaign has made headlines by calling for the impeachment of President Bush and for an end to the Iraq war. Frohnmayer also has focused on the need to increase accountability at all levels of government.

The Fitness Center will be closed from 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, through Sunday, Nov. 25. It will re-open on Monday, Nov. 26, at 6 a.m.

All faculty and staff are invited to a “general talk” session with each of the visiting provost candidates on the days and times listed below. Each candidate will be presenting on one of two topics: “How they see themselves changing the university” or “Thoughts on the future of higher education,” with time for questions and answers. The George Fox community (employees and students) will be asked to show their ID cards when entering home basketball games. Admission is free, but IDs must be shown to get in without being charged.

George Fox will close for the Thanksgiving holiday Thursday, Nov. 22, through Sunday, Nov. 25. All offices will be closed, including the administrative offices and bookstores on the Newberg campus and Portland Center. The Boise Center also will be closed.

The Newberg library will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, and be open from 6 to 10 p.m. on Nov. 25. The Portland Center library will close at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and remain closed until Monday.

An all-campus meeting is scheduled from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, in Bauman Auditorium. All-campus meetings provide George Fox employees an opportunity to receive campus updates, be involved in planning processes, and dialogue with President Robin Baker. Your participation is strongly encouraged.

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, Bon Appetit will close the Villa Cafe (in the Villa Academic Complex) at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 19-20, and at 1:30 p.m. on Nov 21.  It will reopen at its regular hours on Nov. 26.

Don’t forget the University Store’s “Turkey Sale” Nov. 19-21. Take advantage of reduced-for-clearance gift items and supplies. The sale runs through Wednesday. The store will close early (5 p.m.) Wednesday for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

The Best Christian Workplaces Institute reports that 209 (of 475) George Fox employees have already completed this year’s survey.  If you have not taken time to complete the survey, please take about 10 minutes to do so. The survey closes on Dec. 2. The Best Christian Workplaces Institute will present the survey results in summary format to maintain all employees’ confidentiality.

The closing night of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None will be presented in Wood-Mar Auditorium at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16. The cost is $3 with a George Fox ID card. The murder-mystery play is being presented by C.S. Lewis Academy High School’s drama department. Ages 10 and older please.

I am looking for someone with debate experience who will coach our 2008 Ethics Bowl team for the Ethics Bowl in March. I have information about this I will share with interested parties. There is a stipend for the coach.

Student Life is looking for employee leaders to help lead Winter Serve trips. Leaders will partner with two student leaders and get to know a great group of students over a week of ministry, serving and building relationships in one of four locations (see below). The dates for Winter Serve are Dec. 30 through Jan. 5 (plus or minus a day, depending on trip).

Trips:

• Portland/Salem: Serving the homeless right here in Oregon
• Seattle: Partnering with city teams and other local ministries
• Twin Rocks: A discipleship-centered trip to Rockaway, Ore.
• Bellingham, Wash.: Serving on projects that will help make the ultimate camping experience possible

There are still seats available for the first holiday luncheon to be served by the students of Family and Consumer Sciences this Friday, Nov. 16. The luncheon will include a chicken entree with seasonal accompaniments, soup or salad, beverage, and dessert. The cost is $8.

Lunch will be served from noon to 12:30 p.m. in Lemmons Room 4. Take-out orders also are available, so you may pick up several for dinner. Contact Helen Morse (Family and Consumer Sciences) at ext. 2640 between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for reservations and any dietary accommodations.

The students also will serve the lunches on Friday, Nov. 30, and Friday, Dec. 7.

Come to the University Store Monday through Wednesday of Thanksgiving week (Nov. 19-21) and “gobble up” the savings of “leftover,” reduced-for-clearance gift items and supplies during the store’s “Turkey Sale.”

The store closes early (5 p.m.) on Wednesday and is closed Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 22-25.
