In response to the Best Christian Workplace Survey, we have developed an assessment plan for improving the workplace at George Fox. This plan will be conducted between now and the end of fall semester. Over this nine-month period, you will periodically be sent links to a number of surveys. The surveys will be spaced so that you will only be asked to spend about 15 to 20 minutes per request. The scheduling of surveys like this is to help keep your time commitment low since our time is often very limited.

The assessment plan also includes focus groups in the fall that you might be asked to participate in. Once we have analyzed all of the information from the surveys and focus groups, the University Assessment Committee will discuss options with other groups across campus. Potential changes and solutions will be further examined with additional focus groups in the spring. Recommendations will be forwarded at that time.

This is a somewhat long process, but it is necessary to make the most informed decisions about improving George Fox as a place to work. Hopefully you will find it to be an inclusive process as well. Thank you in advance for your time and contributions to this assessment plan.

In honor of the University Store’s annual PJ sale on Thursday, April 16, clothing and gift items will be reduced 25 to 50 percent off, with select merchandise reduced up to 75 percent off. Only one catch: You must wear your PJs to qualify for these great savings.

The university is hosting a series of events on Monday, April 20, to honor the national-champion women’s basketball team. In addition to a morning rally at 10:30 a.m. in Bauman Auditorium, a barbecue, parade and evening party are planned. Here are the details:

Barbecue
Klages Dining Hall, 4:30 p.m.
An on-campus celebration barbecue is scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Klages Dining Hall and, if weather permits, in the Centennial Tower quad.

Parade
Newberg campus and downtown, 6:30 p.m.
At 6:30 p.m., a fire truck will arrive at the Stevens Center to take the team on a short escorted parade around campus and through downtown. The Newberg police and fire departments will escort the team from the center of campus north on Meridian Street, east on Fulton Street, south on Villa Road, west on 99W through downtown and south on Howard Street to the Newberg Public Safety Building, where the Newberg city council will award honorary Newberg citizenship and medallions to the players and coaches at approximately 7 p.m.

Lil’ Cooperstown

The day’s festivities end with a party from approximately 7:45 to 9 p.m. at the Lil’ Cooperstown Restaurant, where the fans can meet the team, request autographs and take photos with the players. The team will be presenting a jersey to be added to the restaurant wall décor.

Spiritual Life will host a Gathering event from 10:40 to 11:30 a.m. this Friday, April 17, in Bauman Auditorium. Come to worship the Lord with the George Fox community.

The university community is invited to attend a celebration rally for the national-champion women’s basketball team from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 20, in Bauman Auditorium. Former Portland Trail Blazer Jerome Kersey and George Fox alumnus Eric Lautenbach, director of college basketball sports marketing at Nike, are scheduled to appear. Newberg Mayor Bob Andrews will proclaim April 20 as “George Fox University Bruins Women’s Basketball Day” in Newberg.

The event will include a video recap of the season and an introduction of Head Coach Scott Rueck and the 14 players who, improbably, stormed to a 32-0 season and George Fox’s first national basketball title.

The rally is part of a full day of celebration activities. For details on the events scheduled, see the university’s website.

Registration appointments for all current students have now passed and we are in an open-registration period. Encourage any student who has not yet registered to do so, before we open registration up to new incoming students in May.

Tilikum Center for Retreats and Outdoor Ministries will host its seventh annual run/walk event to raise funds to get under-resourced children and youth to summer camp. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. this Saturday, April 18, at Champoeg State Park.

Participants raise donations per kilometer that they run or walk, with a minimum donation of $35 required to participate in the event. For children 12 and younger, a $5 minimum is required. Participants will receive a T-shirt and prizes will be awarded. This year, there will be special prizes for teams. Gather people from your department, your floor, or any group.

Ruth Baker and Lori Allen invite the women of George Fox to a movie night at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, in EHS 102. All female faculty, staff and administration employees, as well as female spouses of faculty, staff and administration, are welcome.

On Friday, April 17, the final Students in Recital of the year is scheduled at 12:40 p.m. Performing will be Tiffany Hayes (alto), Bethany Taft (piano), Signify (eight-person choir), Beth Sellers (piano), Emily Yarnold (soprano), Rachel Consenz (soprano), Nick Grant (baritone), Ben Jackson (baritone), Matt Hill (trumpet), Emily Blanshan (flute), Aimee Smith (oboe), Nick Luchterhand (alto saxophone) and Sarah Buckler (clarinet). Providing accompaniment will be Debi Huddleston, Barbara Stewart, Joseph Forster and Cameron DeWhitt. The event will feature the original work of student composers Aimee C Smith, Rebecca Chromey and Joseph Rourke IV.

The final performance of the year will be the Spring Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 24, and will feature the Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Women’s Chorale and the Symphonic Band.

The university’s annual Fox Film Festival is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, April 17, and at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, April 19. Friday’s event is at the Cameo in downtown Newberg and costs $4 (cash only). Lights will go down at 6 p.m., so get there early for a good seat.

On Sunday, films will be shown in Bauman Auditorium free of charge. Refreshments will be served, and DVDs will be on sale.  Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for a small pre-show, and the lights will go down at 6:30 p.m.

This is your final reminder that your university password has been set to expire at 9 a.m. Monday, April 13, as part of the university’s annual password reset for all students, faculty and staff. Please login to Bruindata to change your password before that date.

All accounts with passwords that remain unchanged will be locked at 9 a.m. Monday, April 13, preventing you from using university services. Once this occurs, you will need to contact the IT Service Desk to get your password reset. Based on the recommendations of our auditing firm and following best practices, we will be changing university logins at regular intervals. For details, please refer to the password change policy on the IT website. We need to complete a campus password reset prior to the end of the spring semester.

Note: You are not being asked to send your login information to anyone. Rather, you are using the current university password change process that allows the individual to reset their own password.

Password Self-Service Feature
Once you have reset your password, you will be presented with the option to set “security questions” for your account. If you choose not to enter answers at this time, you can later create a self-service password reset option by logging into Bruindata, selecting the “My Data” tab and then “Security Questions.” You will need to answer two security questions from the drop-down list and provide a non-George Fox e-mail address to activate this option. If you forgot your password, a temporary password will be sent to your non-George Fox e-mail, allowing you to log into Bruindata and change your university login password.

There has been a growing trend of employees’ children being on campus for extended periods during the work day, including some on a fairly regular basis. For a number of good reasons, including liability issues, the university’s policy does not allow children in the workplace. The exact policy in the employee handbook can be found on page 57, and may be read online.

On Monday, April 13, the students in Liberal Arts and Critical Issues (GE Senior Capstone) will be presenting 40 research exhibits on the Future of the American Dream from noon to 3:30 p.m. in the EHS and Hoover atriums. All are encouraged to attend. This is also an excellent opportunity for juniors taking GEED 490 next year to gain a better understanding of this part of the course.

The artistic talents of senior art students will be on display on the Newberg campus during the university’s Senior Thesis Exhibit April 14 through May 2.

An opening reception for the exhibit is scheduled from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, in the Minthorne Gallery. There is no admission charge for the event, which will be showing in both the Minthorne and Lindgren galleries. The gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Lindgren Gallery will feature work by Megan Florio, Joel Krebs, Leah Morris, Jennifer Morse and Mary Saunders. The Minthorne Gallery will feature work by Rachael Brazo, Alisha Fuzi, Jeffery Austin Salzwadel, Rusty Tasto and Nicole Wood.

In addition, senior thesis graphic design portfolio presentations are scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, in Hoover 105. Senior graphic design majors include Shaina Farrer, David Olson, Jennifer Prickett, Courtney Sell, Sean Thomas, Ken Watson and Ryan Wilmot.

Students making a service trip to Nicaragua this May are selling bracelets with the message “Esperanza” (hope) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 9, in the Bruin Den. Come support our students as they raise money for a trip during which they will serve a ministry that rescues at-risk girls on the streets. Come learn more!

ASC Missions is accepting clothing donations between April 7 and April 17. A sale will take place in the quad, with proceeds going toward Transitions Global’s effort to set up a safe house for sex-trafficked girls in Portland. Drop off items in the barrel in the Student Union Building, and look for a sale the last week of classes.
