Meal plan change deadline is today

A reminder to all students on a meal plan for the fall 2024 semester: The deadline for all declining meal plan changes is today (Friday, Aug. 30) at 5 p.m. No declining meal plan changes will be allowed after this date.

Questions can be answered on the Meal Plan page.

Come hear lecture on ‘Spiritual Formation and the Renovation of Our Politics’ Sept. 12

Join us for a special visit from guest Michael Wear, founder, president and CEO of the Center for Christianity and Public Life, as he shares a lecture based on his recent book, which applies insights from the tradition of Christian spiritual formation to questions of politics, citizenship and public life. The title of his presentation is “Spiritual Formation and the Renovation of Our Politics.”

Wear will speak at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, in Hoover 105. His visit is being hosted by the university’s Division of Humanities, Honors and Education as part of our Program for Leadership and Formation.

Reminder: Review the updated campus display and posting policy

The posting and display policy at George Fox applies to student-sponsored public displays and posters. Displays generally consist of a number of images, pictures or ideas intended for engagement by the broader campus community to create awareness or generate discussion.

Posters are generally intended to advertise a particular event or raise awareness about the activities of a particular officially recognized campus club or organization.

All are invited to take part in ‘Be Still’ weekly practice each Friday

The university pastors invite you to participate in “Be Still” every Friday. “Be Still” is a weekly practice where all George Fox community members are invited to find 15 minutes at some point in your day to be still – to pray, to listen, to contemplate the goodness of God.

Take a walk through the canyon, sit in the contemplative garden next to the chapel, or find another sacred spot on campus to seek the Lord.

Big changes coming to resident parking

The east end of the Pennington parking lot will close this Monday, Sept. 2. This includes the connected horseshoe lot. Vehicles in these areas must be moved by then.

Check the campus parking map for alternate resident parking. The expanded Morse lot and gravel lot on Carlton Way are also available.

Join the Color Run tonight in front of HMS

Join us for the Color Run tonight (Friday) at 6 p.m.! We are kicking off the year with this annual event in front of the Hobson/Macy/Sutton (HMS) complex. Grab your free T-shirt, run through the balloon arch, color with your friends, and enjoy a fun and exciting surprise after the run. (Please remove your car from in front of HMS for the event).

Join Providence’s free virtual wellness series beginning Sept. 4

We all want to live our best, healthiest life. No matter your age, current health status, race or economic status, Providence Basecamp’s six-week virtual wellness series wants to make wellness available and attainable for everyone.

Join Jennifer Lundman, MSW, NBC-HWC, each week starting Wednesday, Sept. 4, through Oct. 9, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for this virtual series. This is a complimentary course, and registration is required.

Portland Center offices close Monday for Labor Day

Portland Center offices will be closed this Monday, Sept. 2, in recognition of the Labor Day holiday. The Newberg campus will remain open and will observe a mid-semester fall holiday on Friday, Oct. 4.

With gratitude to the many people who have signed up to volunteer at the Bruin Community Pantry’s food bank, we are pleased to announce the hours are set for the fall semester.*

  • Mondays: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Tuesdays: 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Wednesdays: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Thursdays: 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Fridays: 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

We will be closed during the following holidays & events:

Follow these steps to beat the heat this week

Friday, Aug. 30, and Saturday, Aug. 31. will have temperatures in the mid to upper 90s. As per George Fox heat protocol, please follow these steps:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking water every 20 minutes.
  • Schedule more strenuous work in the cooler parts of the day, such as the morning.
  • Move to an air-conditioned building (Canyon Commons, Klages and Murdock Library) if your building is too warm.
  • Between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., check on fellow employees and classmates every hour to two hours.
  • Know the symptoms of heat-related illnesses.

Encourage students to attend career fairs this academic year

This year, the CAP Center is hosting 10 career fairs on our Newberg campus. It’s our hope that you will encourage your students to attend these valuable networking events.

As part of our professional development goals for our students, these events allow students to present a resume, network with professionals in their industry, develop new relationships, and practice their interviewing skills.

Whether you use it as an assignment, allow students to be excused from class to attend, or simply encourage them to take advantage of these opportunities, we appreciate your support.

Safety Committee needs a Portland Center rep

The George Fox Safety Committee is looking for a representative to join our committee from the Portland Center. The commitment is for one year at about one to two hours a month.

The representative responsibilities are attending all safety committee meetings (most are on Zoom), inspect the Portland Center quarterly, assist with evacuation drills, and attend the annual safety fair.
