Moms gather today for lunch, gear swap on Le Shana patio

Sunday, July 23rd, 2023

Attention moms of littles! Join us today (Monday) for a summer get-together!

A few times a year, George Fox employees who are mothers of young children, or mothers-to-be, gather for a networking lunch. For our next community event we will meet for lunch on the patio of Le Shana Hall at 11:30 a.m. to discuss tips and tricks for balancing work and home life, family logistics, and preparing for fall transitions.

We also plan to do a gear swap. If you have baby items or clothes/shoes that are ready for a new home, bring them to pass on to the next kiddo! If you need the next size up, come ready to take home a gently used item!

If you have questions, reach out to Megan Fisher at mfisher@georgefox.edu.

Honor service award recipients with a ‘gift of words’

Tuesday, July 18th, 2023

The upcoming all-community Meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 15, will be a time for celebration and looking ahead toward our aspirations for the 2023-24 academic year.

During the meeting, we will also be celebrating some amazing accomplishments, including employees who have milestone service anniversaries this year. These are employees who have completed five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years of service at George Fox.

It’s become our tradition to thank these colleagues with our “gift of words.” Please take the time to submit this Google form and help us honor your coworkers and friends with notes of encouragement, gratitude or shared memories. The deadline to respond is July 31.

Thank you in advance for making this an extra special celebration for our loyal employees celebrating a milestone service anniversary this year!

Heat advisory in effect for today

Tuesday, July 18th, 2023

According to the National Weather Service, the region is under a heat advisory for today (Wednesday). Temperatures are expected above 91 degrees in some areas and will range between 87 to 90 degrees for the remainder of the week. The region also is in a critical fire weather pattern.

If you are working in a building without air conditioning or outdoors, please schedule work during the coolest parts of the day. Take advantage of cooler buildings such as the Murdock Library, Klages, or Canyon Commons.

Also, stay hydrated by drinking water every 20 minutes. During the hottest part of the day, check on fellow employees every hour to two hours, and familiarize yourself with the symptoms of heat-related illnesses.

If you have any questions about best practices during high heat, please reach out to Kim Knoernschild, our environmental health and safety specialist, at kknoernschild@georgefox.edu.

Be aware of sprinkler testing happening in campus buildings this week

Monday, July 17th, 2023

Over the next few days plant services will be testing our fire sprinkler systems on campus. When they test, the fire alarm may briefly activate the horn/strobes for a second and then shut down. In some buildings, there will only be a trouble signal for a brief period.

Our proposed schedule for the week is as follows:

  • Tuesday: Macy, Sutton, Hobson, Roberts, LeShana, Gully, Newlin, Brandt
  • Wednesday: Stevens, Wheeler, Hadlock, MLRC, Canyon Commons
  • Thursday: Hoover, Pennington, Edwards

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Construction on Crisman Crossman area is scheduled in coming weeks

Sunday, July 16th, 2023

Construction on campus is entering the next stage! Last week, the construction fencing around the end of Crisman Crossing was adjusted, so Crisman Crossing is no longer accessible on the west side, as the entrance to the bridge will be updated to the new and improved pedestrian path.

An overview of the closed area can be seen here. Construction of the new pedestrian pathway will continue over the next three to four weeks in order to be completed before the students return for the start of the new academic year.

Please use the Hess Creek crossing via Beebe/Carey/Willcuts if walking to the other side of campus, to avoid the construction area. By starting now, we should have a beautiful pedestrian path to Crisman Crossing completed around the time of the August all-employee meeting.

If you have any questions, feel free to email plant services at plantservices@georgefox.edu.
