Can you spare some time this Thursday to assist with the university’s Christmas celebration late in the day?

Join tonight’s discussion on ‘what active civility looks like’

What would active civility look like? How would people treat their political enemies? How would justice get done? Is it possible for our communities to turn away from bitter polarization and learn to work together?

Come to Hoover 105 tonight (Tuesday) to hear several members of the Newberg/Dundee area United as Neighbors group discuss the Civility Pledge they helped draft prior to this year’s elections. You will have a chance to ask questions, offer suggestions, and consider how you can help heal our community. We’ll meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Hoover 105.

Learn how to better manage money at special presentation this Monday

Want to learn more about finances and how to be a good steward of your money? Join us this Monday, Dec. 5, for a special presentation by our own athletic director, Adam Puckett, as he discusses the topic from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at a location to be determined.

For those of you who don’t know, Adam is a CPA and was a partner at an accounting firm in Lake Oswego for many years before he came to Fox as our AD. Pizza will be provided!

Free COVID-19 booster vaccination clinics offered Dec. 2 and Dec. 7

More COVID-19 Bivalent (Pfizer) booster vaccination clinics are here!

The clinics will be held on Friday, Dec. 2, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., and Wednesday, Dec. 7, from 1 to 4 p.m. The vaccines are free of charge.

The clinics will be held at the Health and Counseling Center (located on River Street). Please arrive five minutes early to your appointment, and bring your COVID card with you. We will see you there!

Shop the holiday art sale this Friday and Saturday in Lemmons

Art & Design students are hosting a holiday sale this Friday, Dec. 2, and Saturday, Dec. 3! Please stop by the Lemmons Center and do some Christmas shopping.

Hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday (we will also have a table in Canyon Commons on Friday). There will be plenty of gifts, a wrapping station, goodies and more!

Hear from DMSc students at a graduate research symposium on Dec. 8

Come to the graduate research symposium hosted in Canyon Commons (Room 102-103) on Thursday, Dec. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The DMSc program was created in response to an ever-growing demand for healthcare leaders, particularly in rural, traditionally underserved and international locations. Our DMSc students are excited to present their research to you in a symposium-format doctoral defense.

The focus of our students’ research is rooted in service and leadership, particularly with an emphasis on global health and humanitarian service and leadership. As a part of their coursework, our DMSc students participated in a service trip to Africa and the greater Pacific Northwest.

Come to the symposium on Dec. 8 to hear about the exciting research our DMSc students have been doing. You will not only have the opportunity to hear about their research, but you are also encouraged to ask questions and interact with our students.

A silent auction will be held during the event and will showcase handmade items from master craftsmen and women throughout Africa.

Be aware of accelerated payroll deadlines in December

Please note the accelerated payroll deadlines for December. Due to Christmas break, we will have fewer days to process the December payroll.

Please have all check requests submitted and approved by Friday, Dec. 9. Temporary part-time employee timesheets also should be forecasted and locked and approved by Dec. 9.

Regular employee timesheets and student timesheets can be locked at the end of the month as usual. The student payday will be on Thursday, Dec. 15, and the regular employee payday will be on Thursday, Dec. 22.

Robin and Ruth Baker invite employees to Christmas concert and open house

President Robin and Ruth Baker cordially invite employees to celebrate together at this year’s Christmas Concert on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium. Reserve tickets here.

Employees are entitled to two complimentary tickets for Sunday’s matinee (while tickets last!). Once you select the seat you would like to reserve, you will then choose “employee comp” from a pricing option list. Following the concert on Sunday, employees are invited to a Christmas open house at the president’s home from 4 to 6 p.m. at 701 E. Franklin St., in Newberg.

If you can’t make Sunday’s festivities, employees can get complimentary tickets for Friday or Saturday evenings’ performances. Or employees and students can attend a free family-friendly dress rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8.

Learn more about Northern Ireland Studies program Wednesday in Minthorn 200

Imagine wandering through the rolling green hills of Northern Ireland, exploring ancient landmarks, and cycling across the bumpy, cobblestone streets of Belfast.

The Northern Ireland Studies program, offered each fall and spring semester through a joint partnership between George Fox and John Brown University, is a transformative experience deeply rooted in the country’s culture and history. Want to learn more? Attend our info meeting at 5 p.m. this Wednesday, Nov. 30, in Minthorn 200.

As part of the program, you will take courses in peacemaking and reconciliation, Irish history and culture, and other electives of interest. While there, you will reside in the historic, 19th-century Lakeside Manor, situated on four acres overlooking Willis Lake in the quiet suburbs of South Belfast.

With Belfast a short bus ride away, you can venture to the city to visit the historical locations from your textbooks or sit down with friends for a cup of tea and biscuits. All meals are included in the program cost.
