Be aware of water meter testing scheduled for July 19

Sunday, July 11th, 2021

The city of Newberg will be conducting what they call “large water meter testing” on Monday, July 19. The Newberg campus has both large water meters with bypass valves and large water meters without bypass valves. Buildings being serviced by meters without bypass valves will experience a disruption in water service during testing times.

Locations of large water meters with bypass valves (that should not experience disruption in water service):

  • Roberts Center meter
  • Wood-Mar meter

Locations of water meters without bypasses:

  • Ross meter (testing scheduled for 8:30 a.m.)
  • Wheeler meter (testing scheduled for 10:30 a.m.)
  • Hobson / Macy / Sutton meter (testing scheduled for 1:30 p.m.)
  • George Fox irrigation meter, located near Wood-Mar (no testing schedule provided)
  • Morse Field meter (no testing schedule provided)

The city has stated that the testing should take about 30 minutes per meter. During that time the water may be off completely, unless it has a bypass valve. Questions can be directed to the plant services office (plantservices@georgefox.edu).

Vehicle registration now open

Sunday, July 11th, 2021

The vehicle registration portal is now open for all students to register their vehicles for parking permits for the 2021-22 school year!

Here are some things to be aware of:

  • Students bringing a vehicle to campus must register their vehicle and obtain a parking permit.
  • There have been significant changes in parking areas this year, so be sure to look over your new parking map to ensure you are parking in the right place.
  • All students may order a permit this year.
  • All residents may order a resident parking permit, and all commuters may order a commuter parking permit. Vehicles must be parked in the lots assigned to their permit designation.
  • Register here and be sure to have your DMV registration slip in front of you.
  • If you are unable to register, please call our office for assistance.

Please be mindful of reserved parking areas

Thursday, July 8th, 2021

Staff, including summertime student workers, are permitted to park in all campus parking lots; however, we do ask that you stay out of reserved parking spaces.

These spaces are reserved 24/7 and are to be occupied only by the department staff indicated. Additionally, handicapped spaces are to be used only by vehicles displaying a valid state handicapped permit. They are not for dropping off or visiting without a valid handicapped permit. This is an Oregon state law and is enforceable 24/7/365.

Please don’t park in the marked Visitor parking area in the Stevens parking lot. When these spaces fill up with staff vehicles, our visitors don’t know where to park. Prospective students and their families are visiting campus, and we want to help to make their experience exceptional!

In addition, we have reserved 10-minute parking spots at Mail Services that are meant for running in and grabbing your mail, or for pick-up of heavy packages. They are not for long-term parking.

Please help us by staying out of any reserved spaces. Thank you for your help!

Questions? Call Campus Public Safety at 503-554-2090 or email Elrike Shaw (eshaw@georgefox.edu).

Wednesday, July 7th, 2021

Wellness Wednesdays: Continue to be Grateful

Tuesday, July 6th, 2021

We hope you enjoyed last week’s resources, videos and ideas on the subject of intentional thankfulness. Let us continue disrupting the world with gratitude and see how it changes us and others.

This week, we encourage you to experiment with different things you can do to be in the gratitude zone and take more steps to express it to others.

The one thing all humans have in common is that each of us wants to be happy, says Brother David Steindl-Rast, a monk and interfaith scholar. Happiness, he suggests, is born from gratitude, and we always get another opportunity to enjoy what is given to us every moment.

Get inspired by watching Brother Steindl-Rast in this “Want to be happy? Be grateful” TED Talk video.

“Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer. And let faith be the bridge you build to overcome evil and welcome good.”
