What is social work?

Social work is a profession focused on supporting all people through life’s challenges to ensure individual well-being and strong communities.

As a social work major, students engage in course content and internship experiences that address the core values of service, dignity and worth, the importance of relationships, integrity, competence, and social justice. Click here for more information about our program.

Are there jobs in social work?

Social work is one of the fastest-growing professions in the United States, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). There are currently about 700,000 professional social workers in our nation, but that number is expected to rise to more than 800,000 by 2029.

What do social workers do?

Social workers are found throughout society providing services to individuals, groups, and communities. They work in schools, foster care programs, senior centers, healthcare settings, mental health and substance use disorder treatment centers, and in a variety of public and private organizations.

Social workers also engage in advocacy and social reform through work in the criminal justice system, securing voting rights, and supporting veterans and their families, as well as many other activities. For more information about social work, please click here.
