Lorretta Krautscheid (Nursing) published “Enhancing access for student nurse athletes: Office hours on the road” in Nursing Education Perspectives. The article describes integration of technology, learning theory and multimedia resources, permitting faculty and student athletes to collaborate across distance.  

Paul Otto (History) was interviewed in November by Chance Kelly for his podcast Island. The episode explores the history of New Netherland, 1615-1620, and highlights the role of Hendrick Christiansen. Paul shared his expertise on the Munsees, the fur trade, and wampum.

Ed Higgins (English Faculty Emeritus/Writer in Residence) published his poems â€œSometimes” and “reality” in the Nov. 25 issue of the online literary magazine The Confessionalist. 

Cherice Bock (Seminary) published the following book chapters in fall 2020: “Quaker Spirituality” in Protestant Spiritual Traditions, Vol. 2 (Wipf & Stock) and “Quaker Pneumatology” in T&T Clark Handbook of Pneumatology (editors Daniel Castelo and Kenneth M. Loyer).

As of Dec. 1, Curt Stilp has been appointed as program director of the physician assistant program. Former director Greg Davenport will remain with the program as a part-time strategic development consultant through Feb. 28.

Isaac Macdonald (IT) and Hannah Butler (Event Services) are no longer with George Fox University.

The university’s theatre program invites you to join us for a special online production of Charles Dickins’ classic A Christmas Carol, an audio show presented like an old-time radio drama, later this month.

This delightful digital file for your ears (there is no visual component to it) will be available at your convenience between Friday, Dec. 18, and Sunday, Dec. 27.

Here are ticket instructions:

• Once you purchase your ticket at this link, you will be sent an access code and a link to the online audio file. Watch for the link in your email from ShowTix4U.
• Your access code can be used for a 48-hour “listening window” anytime between Dec. 18 and Dec. 27. The app allows you to rewind at any time and to listen to it as often as you’d like during your 48-hour window. Note: You will have 48 hours to listen to the production once you open the link.

Rick Muthiah, director of Learning Support Services, is collecting strategies for supporting students that faculty members have implemented. The plan is to share ideas and practices with our community as we work together to support students in their educational and vocational endeavors.

Our donor-funded scholarships application is now open for traditional undergraduate students! Through “Student Resources” in your MyGeorgeFox portal you have access to complete just one application and essay for the opportunity to be matched with over 200 of our donor-funded scholarships.

Our donor-funded scholarships range from $500 to $15,000! These scholarships have a variety of criteria – from academic major and grade level, to background and financial need. Once your application and essay are submitted, you are put in the running for the scholarships you qualify for. It’s that easy! 

If you’re looking for a way to fill the gap for the 2021-22 academic year, this is a great opportunity! There’s no better time than during the holiday break to settle down and complete some scholarship applications.

The Richter Committee is pleased to let you know that a series of video presentations from our 2020-21 Richter Scholars is available for viewing on YouTube. In lieu of a poster symposium during fall semester, we asked each participant to record a five- to eight-minute presentation of their research.

You are encouraged to view the videos and send your thanks, encouragement and questions to the individual scholars. Their work is outstanding, and we would like to celebrate this achievement with them. You can access the videos at this link.

Effective Jan. 1, 2021, the state will implement new independent contractor guidelines. In preparation for the changes, George Fox has revamped how we evaluate independent contractors and non-employee check requests. Join one of these sessions to learn about the changes.

Due to the Christmas break holiday, we will have fewer days to process the regular December payroll. Please have all payroll items (check requests, contracts, temporary employee timesheets, approvals, etc.) turned in to HR by 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11.

Regular employee timesheets and student timesheets for December can be locked at the end of the month as usual.
