Gather for ‘Promised Land’ film screening
The Center for Peace and Justice presents Promised Land, an indigenous film, on Tuesday, March 12, from 6 to 9 p.m. in Hoover 104.
Chinook Tribal Chairman, Tony Johnson, and the producers, Vasant and Sarah Salcedo, will be there for a Q&A following the film. Admission is free and the public is welcome.
Promised Land is an award-winning social justice documentary that follows two tribes in the Pacific Northwest, the Duwamish and the Chinook, as they fight for the restoration of treaty rights they have long been denied. In following their story, the film examines a larger problem in the way that the government and society still look at tribal sovereignty.
Students and faculty are welcome to come early, from 3 to 4 p.m., to meet Chinook Tribal Chairman Tony Johnson in Hoover 211 or the film producers, Vasant and Sarah Salcedo, in Hoover 250.
