Fall Carnival is taking place on Monday, Oct. 31!

There will be popcorn, cotton candy, henna, inflatable jousting, a costume contest at 9 p.m., a pie-eating contest at 9:30 p.m., carnival games and more! We’ll even have a mechanical bull! The fun begins at 8 p.m.

So dress up in your Halloween costume and come to Wheeler for a night of fun and get some awesome prizes and food! (No masks allowed … thanks).

Participate in Voices Conference today and tomorrow

Intercultural Life is hosting the Voices Conference at George Fox today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday).

Our vision is to make students, faculty, staff and our neighbors aware of the community’s need for diversity among our leaders. It is this very vision that led Leroy and Donna Barber to begin the Voices Project, and along with Jenny Elsey, make this conference a reality at George Fox.

We will be hosting speakers including Donna and Leroy, David Bailey and Alexia Salvatierra, who will be leading workshops and discussions regarding social justice, leadership and diversity.

The William Penn Honors Program would like to invite you to come hear award-winning author, professor and public speaker James K.A. Smith on Thursday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Wood-Mar Auditorium.

Smith will be speaking from his latest book, You Are What You Love: The Spiritual Power of Habit. The lecture will be immediately followed by a reception and book signing. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.

Hello everyone! The Coast to Coast Swing Club will host a Halloween costume swing dance tomorrow (Saturday) at 7 p.m. in Roberts Center 117. Our special guest instructor Jesse will be teaching blues and will also be the deejay for the evening with a themed play list.

George Fox’s Center for Peace and Justice invites you to the Fall Justice Conference on Monday, Oct. 31, and Tuesday, Nov. 1. Our theme this year is “Peace: Personal and Global.” Please join us as we hear from author and chief church engagement officer of Sojourners, Lisa Sharon Harper.

Lisa will share from her book, The Very Good Gospel: How Everything Wrong Can Be Made Right. Shalom is what God declared. It is what the kingdom of God looks like. It is when all people have enough, and families are healed. Come hear about what we can do to bring shalom to our nations, our communities and our souls!

A university- and community-wide event will be held Monday, Oct. 31, in EHS 102 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Treats provided! Lisa will also speak in chapel on Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 10:50 to 11:40 a.m. in Bauman Auditorium. Her book will be available for purchase at both events.

‘Religious Pluralism in Indonesia’ discussed Monday night

Join us for the next Liberal Arts and Critical Issues presentation of the semester this Monday, Oct. 31, when “Religious Pluralism in Indonesia” will be discussed in Hoover 105. The same presentation will be made from 5 to 6 p.m. and from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Dwight Burton, a political science instructor at George Fox, and Monik Kadarmanto, a LACI instructor, will explore the history and context of religious pluralism in Indonesia and emphasize the value personal relationship and experience bring to building bridges across culture and religion.

Be Known as a Cultural Ambassador

Are you a student interested in being a part of tough conversations revolving around race, faith, and diversity? Do you enjoy discussions about intercultural communication and relationships? If this is you, then consider applying to be a Cultural Ambassador through the Intercultural Life office.

This unique student leadership opportunity is open only for six to 10 students who are seeking to be culturally engaged and who have a desire to see change take place on their own campus. The skills acquired through this intensive training are recognized as being indispensable in the workplace (of all fields). In addition to training with your peers on a weekly basis, students involved in Cultural Ambassadors will be attending the SCORR (Student Congress of Racial Reconciliation Conference) in the month of February, held at Biola University.

This is an enriching opportunity for all students, so do you want to be known as a Cultural Ambassador?

Applications will be open from Oct. 31 through Nov. 11.

You’re invited to audition for Ten! Ten! Ten!, a one-act play festival. Auditions for student-directed, 10-minute plays will be held the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Sign up for a time slot on the theatre callboard in Lemmons! Theatre majors/minors should prepare a 90-second monologue. Monologues will be provided for non-majors to read from.
